Spatial depth for data in metric spaces

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Statistics, Volume 53, Issue 2, Page 684-711, June 2026.
Abstract We propose a novel measure of statistical depth, the metric spatial depth, for data residing in an arbitrary metric space. The measure assigns high (low) values for points located near (far away from) the bulk of the data distribution, allowing quantifying their centrality/outlyingness.

Spectrally-Corrected and Regularized QDA Classifier for Spiked Covariance Model

open access: yesCoRR
Quadratic discriminant analysis (QDA) is a widely used method for classification problems, particularly preferable over Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) for heterogeneous data. However, QDA loses its effectiveness in high-dimensional settings, where the data dimension and sample size tend to infinity.

Pion distribution amplitude and quasidistributions

open access: yes, 2017
We extend our analysis of quasidistributions onto the pion distribution amplitude. Using the formalism of parton virtuality distribution amplitudes, we establish a connection between the pion transverse momentum dependent distribution amplitude Ψ(x, k2⊥)

System prompts in QDA software: an investigation

open access: yesSozialwissenschaftliche Methodenberatung
While writing this blog post, I felt like an investigative journalist. My aim was to find out which system prompts are used in qualitative data analysis (QDA) software. An increasing number of QDA software packages include so-called AI assistants or have been specifically designed for qualitative research using large language models (LLMs), such as ...

Strategies for the Effective Use of NVivo in a Large-Scale Study: Qualitative Analysis and the Repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell

open access: yes, 2017
The use of qualitative data analysis software (QDAS) has expanded over the last two decades, with new technology allowing researchers to analyze more data, faster, and in more complex ways.

Disruptive Meaning-Making: Qualitative Data Analysis Software and Postmodern Pastiche

open access: yes, 2017
This article examines the use of qualitative data analysis software (QDAS) as a means of disrupting conventional research practices. It is based on a study that used NVivo 10 toward the construction of a “postmodern pastiche” of research narratives ...

Graphical passwords and qualitative spatial relations

open access: yes, 2007
A potential drawback of graphical password schemes is that they are more vulnerable to shoulder surfing than conventional alphanumeric text passwords. We present a variation of the Draw-a-Secret scheme originally proposed by Jermyn et al [1] that is more
