Detection of Adulterants in Apple Juice Concentrate by Physicochemical Properties, Organic Acids Profile, Minerals, and Multivariate Classification Strategies

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2026.
This study presents a new method for detecting date syrup, glucose, and fructose adulteration in apple juice concentrate. The approach combines physicochemical property and minerals measurements as well as HPLC profiling of organic acids with chemometric analysis.

Effect of packing conditions on the acrylamide content in black ripe olives

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, Volume 106, Issue 8, Page 4635-4642, June 2026.
Abstract BACKGROUND Black ripe olives are considered a ‘low‐acid canned food’ and must be sterilized in order to be safe. Acrylamide, a potential carcinogen, is formed in black olives during the thermal treatment. It is known that the formation of acrylamide is dependent on the pH of the olive flesh. The purpose of this study was designed to assess the

The use of qualitative data analysis software (QDAS) to manage and support the analysis of think aloud (TA) data [Elektronisk resurs]

open access: yes, 2006
This methodological paper describes how qualitative data analysis software (QDAS) is being used to manage and support a three-step protocol analysis (PA) of think aloud (TA) data in a study examining emergency nurses' reasoning during triage. The authors

The mediating effect of the quality-differentiated auditors on the relationship between organizational attributes and monitoring mechanisms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Monitoring mechanisms (MMs) have become important issues in Sub-Saharan Africa in the quest to reduce corruption. It is equally important to understand factors associated with MMs since such factors determine the effectiveness of MMs in reducing agency ...

Pharmaceutical Wastage in Public Health Facilities of Ethiopia: Determinants, Consequences, and Solutions

open access: yesPublic Health Challenges, Volume 5, Issue 2, June 2026.
A mixed‐methods study of 17 Ethiopian public health facilities found pharmaceutical wastage of ETB 12.2 million (4.0%), mainly from expiration (98%). Key drivers included weak accountability, near‐expiry deliveries, and poor forecasting. Strengthening electronic inventory systems and redistribution mechanisms can substantially reduce losses and improve

On the Foundational Arguments of Sufficient Dimension Reduction

open access: yesWIREs Computational Statistics, Volume 18, Issue 2, June 2026.
Contemporary Sufficient Dimension Reduction, a versatile method for extracting material information from data, can serve as a preprocessor for classical modeling and inference, or as a standalone theory that leads directly to statistical inference. ABSTRACT Sufficient dimension reduction (SDR) refers to supervised methods of dimension reduction that ...

Beyond species loss: Community reshuffling shapes biodiversity along the urban–rural gradient

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 6, June 2026.
Our results indicate that species turnover is a general ecological mechanism shaping vertebrate communities along the urban gradient, driven by taxon‐ and species‐specific responses to environmental and spatial features. Community differences primarily reflect habitat suitability rather than dispersal limitation, highlighting the potential of targeted ...

Between Bitterness and Sweetness: How Decaffeination and Sweeteners Shape the Sensory Experience of Espresso Coffee

open access: yesJournal of Food Science, Volume 91, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT The increasing demand for healthier beverages has encouraged the reduction of caffeine and sugar in coffee‐based products. This study evaluated the sensory descriptive profile and consumer acceptance of traditional and decaffeinated espresso coffees sweetened with sucrose, sucralose, and stevia with different rebaudioside A concentrations. The
