Galectin‐3 plasma levels are associated with left atrial contractile function in long‐distance runners

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract High‐intensity endurance exercise induces myocardial remodelling as an adaptive response to sustained volume overload, but excessive cumulative training might also favour deleterious cardiac remodelling, including atrial fibrosis. Whether acute marathon running engages circulating fibrosis‐related biomarkers and whether these biomarkers track ...

Methamphetamine Enantiomers: From Chemical Synthesis to Biological Fate

open access: yesChirality, Volume 38, Issue 9, September 2026.
Methamphetamine is an amphetamine‐type stimulant characterized by a single stereogenic center, resulting in two enantiomers, (R)‐(−)‐methamphetamine and (S)‐(+)‐methamphetamine, with distinct biological and pharmacological profiles. These forms exhibit differences in central nervous system activity, metabolism, excretion, and overall physiological ...

Topliss‐Guided Optimization of Acetanilide‐Based Soluble Epoxide Hydrolase Inhibitors: Exploring the Pentafluorosulfanyl Group as a Potency‐Enhancing Motif

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 21, Issue 16, 27 August 2026.
Can an amide analog retain the high potency of the classic urea motif in soluble epoxide hydrolase inhibitors? Through a single unconventional switch, the introduction of the underexplored pentafluorosulfanyl group into an amide analog of TPPU, the authors restored high inhibitory potency.

A Macrocyclic Bistriazene: Stabilization of the [Ni(Py)2]2+ Complex Cation with 6,15,23,32−Tetraethoxycarbonyl−bis(tolanetriazenediide) Ion as Ligand

open access: yesZeitschrift für anorganische und allgemeine Chemie, Volume 652, Issue 12, 3 August 2026.
The arrangement of the complex molecules [Ni((4,4′−EtO(CO)2tolaneN3)2(py)2] and pyridine as crystallization solvate in the solid state based on nonbonded intermolecular interactions such CH⋅⋅⋅py, CH⋅⋅⋅O and CH⋅⋅⋅HC contacts is discussed in this work.

Human Leukocyte Elastase Triggered Nanoparticles for Targeted Antimicrobial Delivery and Oral Microbial Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, Volume 6, Issue 8, August 2026.
This study explores enzyme‐responsive nanoparticles for targeted antimicrobial release in inflamed oral environments. Nanoparticles formed by complexing peptides and chlorhexidine respond to human leukocyte elastase and release chlorhexidine selectively. P7 (ECAAPVCE)‐based formulations show optimal properties and stability, with antimicrobial activity

Estrogen Receptor Beta Activation Coordinates Liver Lipid Remodeling and Metabolic Fluxes, Preventing Lipotoxicity

open access: yesComprehensive Physiology, Volume 16, Issue 4, August 2026.
ERβ activation restores glucose and lipid homeostasis by remodeling the hepatic lipidome. Mechanistically, it promotes complete fatty acid oxidation and decreases Acetyl‐CoA levels, leading to reduced ketogenesis and lipotoxicity, as demonstrated through in vivo and in vitro approaches.

Nanostructured and Functionalized Calcium Hydroxyapatite Enhances Collagen Production by Human Dermal Fibroblasts Compared With Microstructured Counterparts In Vitro

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Materials Research Part B: Applied Biomaterials, Volume 114, Issue 8, August 2026.
Nanostructured, lactose‐functionalized calcium hydroxyapatite (nanoCaHA) was produced by nanospray drying, yielding submicron, amorphous, carbonated particles with improved physicochemical properties. NanoCaHA was biocompatible and outperformed microstructured CaHA in stimulating collagen‐related gene expression and total collagen production in human ...

Immunoglobulin binding protein (BiP) forms two types of dimers

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Immunoglobulin binding protein (BiP) is a chaperone protein that plays crucial roles in protein folding and transport by binding unfolded proteins in the substrate binding domain (SBD), an interaction allosterically linked to the nucleotide occupancy of the nucleotide binding domain (NBD).
