Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Workflow for Design of Experiments‐Based Modeling of Species Transport and Growth Kinetics in GaN Hydride Vapor Phase Epitaxy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel workflow for investigating hydride vapor phase epitaxy for GaN bulk crystal growth is proposed. It combines Design of experiments (DoE) with physical simulations of mass transport and crystal growth kinetics, serving as an intermediate step between DoE and experiments.

ON HEROD'S QUADRATIC DIFFERENTIAL SYSTEM WITH INFINITELY MANY UNKNOWNS

open access: yesDemonstratio Mathematica, 2004
The following quadratic differential system with infinitely many unknowns is studied \[ \dot x_n+x_n=\frac1{n+1}\sum^n_{k=0}x_kx_{n-k},\quad n=0,1,2,\dots;\;x_0(0)=1;\;x_1(0)=0;\;x_k(0)=c_k,\;k\geq 2.\tag{1} \] The author studies the question: If the sequence \(\{c_k\}\) is in \(\ell^2\), is the same true for the sequence \(\{x_k(0)\}\) for each \(t ...

Photoswitching Conduction in Framework Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This mini‐review summarizes recent advances in state‐of‐the‐art proton and electron conduction in framework materials that can be remotely and reversibly switched on and off by light. It discusses the various photoswitching conduction mechanisms and the strategies employed to enhance photoswitched conductivity.

The Open-Loop Discounted Linear Quadratic Differential Game for Regular Higher Order Index Descriptor Systems [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper we consider the discounted linear quadratic differential game for descriptor systems that have an index larger than one. We derive both necessary and sufficient conditions for existence of an open-loop Nash (OLN) equilibrium.

Predicting Atomic Charges in MOFs by Topological Charge Equilibration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An atomic charge prediction method is presented that is able to accurately reproduce ab‐initio‐derived reference charges for a large number of metal–organic frameworks. Based on a topological charge equilibration scheme, static charges that fulfill overall neutrality are quickly generated.

Imaging of Biphoton States: Fundamentals and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Quantum states of two photons exhibit a rich polarization and spatial structure, which provides a fundamental resource of strongly correlated and entangled states. This review analyzes the physics of these intriguing properties and explores the various techniques and technologies available to measure them, including the state of the art of their ...

Invariants at fixed and arbitrary energy. A unified geometric approach

open access: yes, 1995
Invariants at arbitrary and fixed energy (strongly and weakly conserved quantities) for 2-dimensional Hamiltonian systems are treated in a unified way. This is achieved by utilizing the Jacobi metric geometrization of the dynamics.
