Adaptive mesh coarsening for quadrilateral and hexahedral meshes
Finite Elements in Analysis and Design, 2010Mesh adaptation methods can improve the efficiency and accuracy of solutions to computational modeling problems. In many applications involving quadrilateral and hexahedral meshes, local modifications which maintain the original element type are desired. For triangle and tetrahedral meshes, effective refinement and coarsening methods that satisfy these

Equivalence of several quadrilateral shape regular mesh conditions used in finite element analysis are proved and their influence on the finite element interpolation error studied. The necessity of the bisection condition is emphasized through illustrations.

Angle-Preserving Quadrilateral Mesh Parameterization
IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications, 2015In response to their growing use in the real world, this article presents two algorithms for direct parameterization of quadrilateral meshes. The proposed algorithms are angle-preserving mappings, with one mapping a topological disk surface onto a Euclidean plane and one mapping a topological sphere surface onto a unit sphere.
