Can Linguistic Distance help Language Classification? Assessing Hawrami-Zaza and Kurmanji-Sorani [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
To consider Hawrami and Zaza (Zazaki) standalone languages or dialects of a language have been discussed and debated for a while among linguists active in studying Iranian languages. The question of whether those languages/dialects belong to the Kurdish language or if they are independent descendants of Iranian languages was answered by MacKenzie (1961)

What matters for agricultural trade? Assessing the role of trade deal provisions using machine learning

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper employs machine learning to determine which preferential trade agreement (PTA) provisions are relevant to agricultural trade patterns and the factors that may influence their adoption. Utilizing the three‐way gravity model, we apply plug‐in Lasso regularized regression to pinpoint predictive PTA provisions for agricultural trade ...

How do both firm‐level resources and country‐level competitiveness shape the relationship between alliance portfolio diversity and radical innovation? A comparison between the food and other manufacturing industries

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
Abstract This study examines how European food companies can operationally leverage the value created by strategic alliances into commercially viable products. More importantly, it emphasizes that the effects of alliance portfolio diversity (APD) on radical innovation performance can be achieved not only directly, but also via moderating roles, that is,

Non-Parametric Bayesian Areal Linguistics [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Conference of the North American Association for Computational Linguistics, 2009, 2009
We describe a statistical model over linguistic areas and phylogeny. Our model recovers known areas and identifies a plausible hierarchy of areal features. The use of areas improves genetic reconstruction of languages both qualitatively and quantitatively according to a variety of metrics.
