From Claims to Choices: How Health Information Shapes Consumer Decisions in the Functional Food Market

open access: yesFoods
The current study examines the impact of health claims on consumer preferences and willingness to pay (WTP) for functional snack bars, focusing on anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Analysis of ownership network of European companies using gravity models

open access: yesApplied Network Science, 2022
Social network analysis is increasingly applied to modeling regional relationships. However, in this scenario, we cannot ignore the geographical economic and technological nature of the relationships.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Methods for prioritization: Toward quantitative approach to prioritize zoonoses in South East Asia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Resources for research, surveillance, control and others public health activities are limited and it is difficult to compare the importance of diseases, which vary in terms of occurrence, impacts, etc. So, in this context of scarce resources and multiple

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Effectiveness of Laser Therapy in Adults with Knee Osteoarthritis: A Bivariate Meta-Analysis of Placebo-Controlled Randomized Controlled Trials

open access: yesEpidemiology, Biostatistics and Public Health
Background: Knee pain represents the second most common musculoskeletal disorder after low back pain [1]. Knee osteoarthritis (OA) represents the leading cause of knee pain, as well as the most common site for OA, with a projected increase of 74.9 ...
