The Genetic Architecture of Noise-Induced Hearing Loss: Evidence for a Gene-by-Environment Interaction. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The discovery of environmentally specific genetic effects is crucial to the understanding of complex traits, such as susceptibility to noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL).

Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

Selection and validation of potato candidate genes for maturity corrected resistance to Phytophthora infestans based on differential expression combined with SNP association and linkage mapping. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Late blight of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) caused by the oomycete Phytophthora infestans (Mont.) de Bary, is one of the most important bottlenecks of potato production worldwide.

Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping of Magnetic Quadrupole Moments

open access: yesConcepts in Magnetic Resonance Part A, 2019
We modeled the magnetic field up to the quadrupole term to investigate not only the average susceptibility (dipole), but also the susceptibility distribution (quadrupole) contribution. Expanding the magnetic field up to the 2nd order provides the quadrupole (0th: monopole, 1st: dipole). Numerical simulations were performed to investigate the quadrupole

Influence of a Hydrogen Addition to the Inert Gas and Subsequent Heat Treatments on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Magnesium WE43 Fabricated by PBF‐LB/M

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article investigates optimal processing conditions for the laser‐based powder bed fusion of WE43. To limit the interaction with remaining oxygen, a 3 vol% hydrogen admixture to the inert gas is investigated. Furthermore, heat treatments are investigated in the range of 250–350 °C for 48 h.

Learning-based Single-step Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping Reconstruction Without Brain Extraction

open access: yes, 2019
Quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) estimates the underlying tissue magnetic susceptibility from MRI gradient-echo phase signal and typically requires several processing steps.

Fluorinated Graphene‐Coated N95 Respirators for Enhanced Protection against Viral Accumulation and Transmission

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a one‐step spray coating approach to coat the fluorinated graphene (FG) nanosheet onto the N95 respirators. The spray‐coated superhydrophobic N95 respirators can effectively repel respiratory droplets off instantaneously and prevent SARS‐CoV‐2 virus accumulation on the surface.

Landslide susceptibility mapping using multi-criteria evaluation techniques in Chittagong Metropolitan Area, Bangladesh [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Landslides are a common hazard in the highly urbanized hilly areas in Chittagong Metropolitan Area (CMA), Bangladesh. The main cause of the landslides is torrential rain in short period of time.

Direct Natural and Artificial Aging of Aluminum Alloy AlSi10Mg After Laser Powder‐Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser powder‐bed fusion of metals aluminum alloy AlSi10Mg has been directly aged. Artificial aging after natural aging is considered. The hardening potential is high for the top part of the samples as well as after short natural aging. The hardening potential is substantially reduced for the bottom part of the samples, as well as after natural aging of
