Psychiatric genetics and the structure of psychopathology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
For over a century, psychiatric disorders have been defined by expert opinion and clinical observation. The modern DSM has relied on a consensus of experts to define categorical syndromes based on clusters of symptoms and signs, and, to some extent ...

Genomic Structural Variations Provide Insights Into Litter Size and Teat Number Traits in Hu Sheep

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Here, we conducted whole genome sequencing on 300 Hu sheep with an average depth of 16.51X. Two candidate genes associated with litter size and teat number traits were identified, namely MAST2 and AFDN. ABSTRACT Litter size and the teat number are important economic indicators in sheep production.

Single‐Cell RNA Sequencing Informs Precision Targeting of Monogenic Lupus Associated With IKZF1 Haploinsufficiency

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective This study aimed to investigate the mechanisms of immune dysregulation in a pediatric patient with monogenic lupus driven by IKZF1 haploinsufficiency. Methods Peripheral immune cells from a patient with IKZF1 haploinsufficiency, patients with lupus with no currently known genetic mutations, and healthy controls were analyzed using single‐cell

Characterization of genome-methylome interactions in 22 nuclear pedigrees.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Genetic polymorphisms can shape the global landscape of DNA methylation, by either changing substrates for DNA methyltransferases or altering the DNA binding affinity of cis-regulatory proteins.

Deciphering the catalytic and pharmacological mechanisms of Coptis chinensis herbzymes to renovate intestinal microenvironment for colitis alleviation

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
The synthesized CCzymes possess both antioxidant enzyme activity and pharmacological properties inherent to Coptis chinensis. By their antioxidant enzyme activity, CCzymes can attenuate oxidative stress within the inflammatory region of ulcerative colitis (UC), while their pharmacological activity acts on macrophage polarization and the intestinal ...

Natural variation reveals that intracellular distribution of ELF3 protein is associated with function in the circadian clock

open access: yeseLife, 2014
Natural selection of variants within the Arabidopsis thaliana circadian clock can be attributed to adaptation to varying environments. To define a basis for such variation, we examined clock speed in a reporter-modified Bay-0 x Shakdara recombinant ...

Using Extended Genealogy to Estimate Components of Heritability for 23 Quantitative and Dichotomous Traits

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2013
Important knowledge about the determinants of complex human phenotypes can be obtained from the estimation of heritability, the fraction of phenotypic variation in a population that is determined by genetic factors. Here, we make use of extensive phenotype data in Iceland, long-range phased genotypes, and a population-wide genealogical database to ...

Individualised niches: an integrative conceptual framework across behaviour, ecology, and evolution

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Individuals differ. While seemingly trivial, this insight has nevertheless led to paradigm shifts, as three key fields of organismal biology have seen marked changes in key concepts over the past few decades. In animal behaviour, it has become increasingly recognised that behavioural differences among individuals can be stable over time and ...

Heritability and genetic loci of fatty liver in familial combined hyperlipidemia

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2006
VLDL overproduction, a process that is driven by an excess amount of hepatic fat, is a well-documented feature of familial combined hyperlipidemia (FCHL).
