Quantitative Trait Locus Analysis in Haplodiploid Hymenoptera

2012
This article describes QTL analyses for solitary (Nasonia, a parasitoid wasp) and social hymenopteran species (honeybee and bumblebee). These exemplar QTL analyses determined the genetic basis of morphological, behavioral, and colony level traits. Mapping populations were derived either from lab crosses between highly inbred strains (Nasonia spp.), lab

Quantitative Trait Locus for Reading Disability: Correction

Science, 1995
In the news article "Can risky mergers save hospital-based research?" by Wade Roush (19 May, p. 968), the statement that University Hospitals of Cleveland rose from 20th in the rankings of teaching hospitals funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 1991 to 12th at present was incorrect. In fact, it was Case Western Reserve University (CWRU),

A longitudinal quantitative trait locus mapping of chicken growth traits

Molecular Genetics and Genomics, 2018
Since the growth traits of chickens are largely related to the production of meat and eggs, it is definitely important to understand genetic basis of growth traits. Although many quantitative trait loci (QTLs) that affect growth traits have recently been reported in chickens, little is known about genetic architecture of growth traits across all growth

Quantitative trait locus mapping for atherosclerosis susceptibility

Current Opinion in Lipidology, 2003
Atherosclerosis is a complex trait with both environmental and genetic aspects. Although some progress has been made in defining genes associated with atherosclerosis in humans, animal models have been useful in learning about pathways and genes involved in atherogenesis.

Prospects for quantitative trait locus methodology in gerontology

Experimental Gerontology, 1997
The remarkable advances in mapping of genomes have made it feasible to search among the hitherto anonymous polygenes of complex systems for loci of intermediate effect size (quantitative trait loci-QTL). Pursuing the strategy of identifying these QTL in complex systems will open the possibility of exploring the genetic architecture and the anatomical ...

Localization of a Quantitative Trait Locus via a Bayesian Approach

Biometrics, 2000
Summary. A Bayesian approach to the direct mapping of a quantitative trait locus (QTL), fully utilizing information from multiple linked gene markers, is presented in this paper. The joint posterior distribution (a mixture distribution modeling the linkage between a biallelic QTL and N gene markers) is computationally challenging and invites ...

The investigation of linkage between a quantitative trait and a marker locus

Behavior Genetics, 1972
Procedures are given, using sib pairs, for estimating linkage between a knownm-allele locus and a hypothesized two-allele locus that governs a quantitative trait. Random mating and linkage equilibrium are assumed. Also given are parametric and nonparametric methods for detecting linkage when the trait in question is governed by several two-allele loci,

Mapping of a quantitative trait locus for morphine withdrawal severity

Mammalian Genome, 2004
Chronic morphine exposure results in physical dependence, manifested by physical symptoms during naloxone-precipitated withdrawal. Jumping frequency is widely considered the most sensitive and reliable index of withdrawal intensity in mice. Inbred mouse strains surveyed for naloxone-precipitated withdrawal display large and significant strain ...

Quantitative Trait Locus (QTL) Mapping in Aging Systems

2007
Understanding the genetic basis of the effects of aging on the decline in the immune response is an enormous undertaking. The most prominent age-related change in the immune system is thymic involution. This chapter will focus on the use of C57BL/6 J X DBA/2 J (BXD) recombinant inbred (RI) strains of mice to map genetic loci associated with age-related

Quantitative Trait Locus for Reading Disability on Chromosome 6

Science, 1994
Interval mapping of data from two independent samples of sib pairs, at least one member of whom was reading disabled, revealed evidence for a quantitative trait locus (QTL) on chromosome 6. Results obtained from analyses of reading performance from 114 sib pairs genotyped for DNA markers localized the QTL to 6p21.3.
