Quantitative trait locus mapping for atherosclerosis susceptibility
Current Opinion in Lipidology, 2003Atherosclerosis is a complex trait with both environmental and genetic aspects. Although some progress has been made in defining genes associated with atherosclerosis in humans, animal models have been useful in learning about pathways and genes involved in atherogenesis.

Prospects for quantitative trait locus methodology in gerontology
Experimental Gerontology, 1997The remarkable advances in mapping of genomes have made it feasible to search among the hitherto anonymous polygenes of complex systems for loci of intermediate effect size (quantitative trait loci-QTL). Pursuing the strategy of identifying these QTL in complex systems will open the possibility of exploring the genetic architecture and the anatomical ...

Localization of a Quantitative Trait Locus via a Bayesian Approach
Biometrics, 2000Summary. A Bayesian approach to the direct mapping of a quantitative trait locus (QTL), fully utilizing information from multiple linked gene markers, is presented in this paper. The joint posterior distribution (a mixture distribution modeling the linkage between a biallelic QTL and N gene markers) is computationally challenging and invites ...

Quantitative Trait Locus for Reading Disability on Chromosome 6
Science, 1994Interval mapping of data from two independent samples of sib pairs, at least one member of whom was reading disabled, revealed evidence for a quantitative trait locus (QTL) on chromosome 6. Results obtained from analyses of reading performance from 114 sib pairs genotyped for DNA markers localized the QTL to 6p21.3.

Mapping of a quantitative trait locus for morphine withdrawal severity
Mammalian Genome, 2004Chronic morphine exposure results in physical dependence, manifested by physical symptoms during naloxone-precipitated withdrawal. Jumping frequency is widely considered the most sensitive and reliable index of withdrawal intensity in mice. Inbred mouse strains surveyed for naloxone-precipitated withdrawal display large and significant strain ...

A major quantitative trait locus conferring subgynoecy in cucumber
Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 2015A major QTL conditioning high degree of femaleness in cucumber was identified by marker analysis and next generation sequencing. Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) is a model species for sex determination studies, and its yield is associated with the degree of femaleness.

Quantitative Trait Locus Analysis Using J/qtl
2009Quantitative trait locus (QTL) analysis is a statistical method to link phenotypes with regions of the genome that affect the phenotypes in a mapping population. R/qtl is a powerful statistical program commonly used for analyzing rodent QTL crosses, but R/qtl is a command line program that can be difficult for novice users to run.

Quantitative Trait Locus (QTL) Mapping in Aging Systems
2007Understanding the genetic basis of the effects of aging on the decline in the immune response is an enormous undertaking. The most prominent age-related change in the immune system is thymic involution. This chapter will focus on the use of C57BL/6 J X DBA/2 J (BXD) recombinant inbred (RI) strains of mice to map genetic loci associated with age-related

Quantitative Trait Locus (QTL) Analysis 1
Journal of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Education, 2005This is the first of a two-part series that describes the methods and uses of QTL analysis. Understanding the genetic control of quantitative traits helps plant breeders improve crop yield, disease resistance, end-use quality, and other important characteristics.

Quantitative Trait Locus (QTL) Analysis 2
Journal of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Education, 2005This is the second of a two-part series that describes the methods and uses of QTL analysis. Objectives and Overview Quantitative trait locus (QTL) analysis is a methodology that combines DNA marker and phenotypic trait data to locate and characterize genes that influence quantitative traits.
