Identification and characterization of a cucumber accession resistant to tomato leaf curl New Delhi virus

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Biology, Volume 188, Issue 1, Page 182-194, January 2026.
Tomato leaf curl New Delhi virus (ToLCNDV) causes significant yield and fruit quality losses in cucurbit crops, particularly in the Mediterranean region. We identified a new source of resistance to ToLCNDV in cucumber (accession ABS.PE.045) and mapped resistance to four genomic intervals in chromosomes 1, 2, 6, and 7.

Defining Conservation Units in a Highly Diverse Species: A Case on Arctic Charr

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, Volume 19, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Defining appropriate conservation units is crucial to the protection and management of biodiversity. These delineations deliver further benefit when they include assessments of population vulnerability to extinction from pressures such as climate change.

Trait Mapping Utilizing a Newly Constructed Genome for Allohexaploid Invasive Eurasian Watermilfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum) Reveals a Non‐Target Site QTL Associated With Fluridone Resistance

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, Volume 19, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Herbicides are a valuable tool in agricultural ecosystems to manage nuisance species. Due to the reliance on herbicides for weed control, herbicide resistance is a growing concern. Herbicides are also used extensively in aquatic and natural systems, but the genetics and evolutionary dynamics of resistance are not as frequently incorporated ...

Osteochondrosis in horses: An overview of genetic and other factors

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, Volume 58, Issue 1, Page 6-19, January 2026.
Abstract Osteochondrosis (OC) is a frequent manifestation of developmental orthopaedic disease, and its severe clinical presentation is known as OC dissecans (OCD). OC is defined as a disruption of the endochondral ossification process in the epiphyseal cartilage, and this disease has been reported in different mammalian species, including humans, dogs,

Nitrogen Economy Strategies Define Distinct Functional Groups of Genotypes in a Miscanthus sinensis Progeny

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, Volume 18, Issue 1, January 2026.
Substantial intergenotypic variation in nitrogen uptake and recycling traits was observed in a M. sinensis progeny. This variability defined three functional groups with contrasting nitrogen‐use strategies, offering a framework for selecting ideotypes tailored to different environments while maintaining high biomass production under nitrogen‐limited ...

Optimising the Use of Cryopreserved Genetic Resources for the Selection and Conservation of Animal Populations

open access: yesJournal of Animal Breeding and Genetics, Volume 143, Issue 1, Page 50-67, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Genetic diversity is essential for the sustainability and adaptability of populations, and is thus a central pillar of the agro‐ecological transition. However, within a population, it is inevitable that some amount of genetic variability is lost, and efforts must be made to limit this as much as possible.
