A Signal-Dependent Error Arising in Digitally Processed Images Due to Quantization

IEEE Transactions on Computers, 1972
A troublesome error has been found in digital data which represents an image renormalized by a computer. The error, which takes the form of anomalous patterns in the switching sequence of certain bits, contributes unnecessary, signal-dependent noise to the-data.

Vector-based signal processing and quantization for image and video compression

Proceedings of the IEEE, 1995
Image and video compression has become an increasingly important and active area. Many techniques have been developed in this area. Any compression technique can be modeled as a three-stage process. The first stage can be generally called a signal processing stage where an image or video signal is converted into a different domain. Usually, there is no

Coefficient quantization effects in digital signal processing

ICASSP '77. IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2005
A statistical analysis of the effects of coefficient quantization, which takes into account the quantization of the multiplication result, is presented. It is shown that the logarithm of the coefficient quantization noise power is proportional to the coefficient word length.

Quantization error in processing the signal from a laser Doppler anemometer

Measurement Techniques, 1998
The effect of quantization noise arising in the course of digital processing of the signal of a laser Doppler anemometer on the error in Doppler signal frequency estimation in the time domain is considered. It is shown that in high-precision measurements the quantization noise that appears in amplitude quantization of the signal of a laser Doppler ...

Optimum quantization for signal processing and error correction in NAND flash memory

International Symposium on Signals, Circuits and Systems ISSCS2013, 2013
Conventional error correction employing hard-decision decoding algorithms is not sufficient to correct all the bit errors in high density NAND flash memory. Recently, signal processing algorithms as well as soft-decision error correction are widely studied for improving error correcting performance.

Are Traditional Signal Processing Techniques Rate Maximizing in Quantized SU-MISO Systems?

GLOBECOM 2017 - 2017 IEEE Global Communications Conference, 2017
In this contribution, we provide an information theoretical analysis of coarsely-quantized downlink Single-User (SU)- Multiple Input Single Output (MISO) communication systems. We address the question of whether traditional signal processing techniques, i.e., proper signaling and channel rank transmit covariance matrices, are still optimal with respect

Novel multi-input signal-processing networks with reduced quantization noise

International Journal of Electronics, 1984
Abstract New modular multi-input networks for direct arithmetic operations on delta-modulated input and output signals are designed and discussed. These networks are useful for delta-modulated signal-processing applications. They have advantages over those proposed up to now in that their design procedure is simpler, they are cheaper and, most ...

Signal Quantization Effects on Acquisition Process of GPS Receiver: The Analysis and Simulation

2008 Congress on Image and Signal Processing, 2008
Signal quantization levels can have significant impact on the performance of a GPS receiver, especially in the present of the interference. In this paper, signal quantization model for estimating interference suppression of the correlator output and evaluating the performance of GPS receiver is presented.

A Framework for Interval Quantization and Application to Interval Based Algorithms in Digital Signal Processing

Fundamenta Informaticae, 2011
In this article, we use the interval mathematics and targeted rounding by specific functions to establish a framework for interval quantization. The function approximation FId, that maps x to an interval [x1, x2] such that x1 is the largest floating point number less than or equal to x and x2 is the smallest floating point number greater than or equal
