Microcavity-Stabilized Quantum Cascade Laser

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 2016
A CaF2 whispering gallery mode microresonator is used for frequency stabilization and linewidth narrowing of a mid-IR quantum cascade laser. Sub-Doppler recording of a CO2 transition demonstrates the suitability of the system for high-resolution spectroscopy.

Quantum Cascade Lasers

2013
THz sources are the fundamental requirement for THz technology even for passive detection systems where sources are required for heterodyne detection to improve detectivity. A review is given for one such THz source, the quantum cascade laser. Quantum cascade lasers are unipolar, intersubband photon emitters that can be tuned through the width of ...

SILICON-GERMANIUM QUANTUM-CASCADE LASERS

International Journal of High Speed Electronics and Systems, 2003
The prospects and advantages of silicon germanium quantum cascade lasers are discussed, from both physical and technological perspectives. A range of Si/SiGe intersubband laser configurations are discussed, for both edge and surface emission. Recent experimental activity on mid- and far-infrared devices is reviewed, and the value of detailed ...

Microcavity‐Stabilized Quantum Cascade Laser

Laser & Photonics Reviews, 2015
Narrow‐linewidth lasers are key elements in optical metrology and spectroscopy. Spectral purity of these lasers determines accuracy of the measurements and quality of collected data. Solid state and fiber lasers are stabilized to relatively large and complex external optical cavities or narrow atomic and molecular transitions to improve their spectral ...

Tapered Quantum Cascade Lasers

2007 International Nano-Optoelectronics Workshop, 2007
Quantum cascade lasers with tapered gain sections have been fabricated. The devices show good room temperature performance with an output-power > 100 mW and a very narrow horizontal farfield with a beam divergence of 9deg.

Supercontinuum quantum cascade laser

Summaries of Papers Presented at the Lasers and Electro-Optics. CLEO '02. Technical Diges, 2003
Summary form only given. The design rule for supercontinuum generation can be deduced in a rigorous way; however, the family of solutions is rather large owing to the high number of free parameters. We put constraints into our model, which ultimately leads to a design rule stating the peak wavelength of each active region as a function of its position ...

Terahertz quantum cascade lasers

The 16th Annual Meeting of the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society, 2003. LEOS 2003., 2004
We report our successful development of THz quantum cascade lasers with two unique features. The intersubband gain medium is based on resonant optical phonon scattering to depopulate the lower lasing level, and the THz mode confinement is achieved using a metal-semiconductor-metal waveguide.

Quantum Cascade Laser Spectroscopy

2021
Over the past few decades, the progress in applications of quantum cascade laser (QCL) spectroscopy has accelerated with breathtaking way since its discovery in 1994. The unique properties of QCL such as certain access in mid-IR spectral range, narrow emission pure spectrum, and wide tuning capabilities have enabled to develop new-generation analytical

Quantum cascade Raman laser

SPIE Proceedings, 2005
Oscillators based on Raman gain, known in the literature as Raman lasers, have until now necessitated an external optical pump. A powerful multi-watt fundamental laser radiation is usually required to offset a small value of the Raman gain coefficient, typically several 10-9cm/W in most Raman-active media.

Quantum cascade disk lasers

Applied Physics Letters, 1996
The fabrication and characterization of quantum cascade (QC) disk lasers at 5 μm wavelength is reported. The QC scheme yields several advantages for the disk geometry: an inherently transverse magnetic polarization, tailorable wavelength, and unipolar carrier transport.
