Superstrings in quantum cosmology
Physical Review D, 1992We consider the dynamics of a four-dimensional universe using the pointlike field-theory effective action of superstrings. We use the boundary conditions of Hartle and Hawking and Vilenkin to solve the Wheeler-DeWitt equation. We find that under certain conditions the Universe will tunnel from a Euclidean regime to a Lorentzian regime.

Quantum Cosmology and the Cosmological Constant
1991The origin of our universe and the small scale structure of spacetime lie deep in the realm of quantum theory, yet they seem to relate to the large scale features of the universe. The value of the cosmological constant is probably zero, but a small value related to a light particle mass is possible.

From Quantum Cosmology to Quantum Gravity
1983The remarkable success of general relativity is marred by two fundamental difficulties at two apparently different scales. First the acausal character of the hot big bang cosmology is unacceptable because it leads to dynamical instabilities when extrapolated back to the Planck temperature.
