Exotic symmetries, duality, and fractons in 2+1-dimensional quantum field theory

open access: yes, 2020
We discuss nonstandard continuum quantum field theories in 2+1 dimensions. They exhibit exotic global symmetries, a subtle spectrum of charged excitations, and dualities similar to dualities of systems in 1+1 dimensions.

From quantum field theory to quantum mechanics

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields, 2021
The purpose of this article is to construct an explicit relation between the field operators in Quantum Field Theory and the relevant operators in Quantum Mechanics for a system of N identical particles, which are the symmetrised functions of the ...

A Quantum field theory of dyons [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of Quantum aspects of gauge theories, supersymmetry and unification — PoS(tmr99), 2000
We construct a classical field theory action which upon quantization via the functional integral approach, gives rise to a consistent Dirac-string independent quantum field theory. The approach entails a systematic derivation of the correlators of all gauge invariant observables, and also of charged dyonic fields.

Quantum Field Perturbation Theory Revisited [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Schwinger's formalism in quantum field theory can be easily implemented in the case of scalar theories in $D$ dimension with exponential interactions, such as $\mu^D\exp(\alpha\phi)$. In particular, we use the relation $$ \exp\big(\alpha{\delta\over \

Quantum-field theories as representations of a single $^\ast$-algebra [PDF]

open access: yesUniversal Journal of Physics and Application 1, 179 - 188 (2013), 2013
We show that many well-known quantum field theories emerge as representations of a single $^\ast$-algebra. These include free quantum field theories in flat and curved space-times, lattice quantum field theories, Wightman quantum field theories, and string theories.

Quantum field theory of geometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Over the past five years, there has been significant progress on the problem of quantization of diffeomorphism covariant field theories with {\it local} degrees of freedom. The absence of a background space-time metric in these theories gives rise to a host of conceptual and technical difficulties because most of the familiar methods from axiomatic ...

Quantum Field Theory in Categorical Quantum Mechanics [PDF]

open access: yesElectronic Proceedings in Theoretical Computer Science, 2019
We use tools from non-standard analysis to formulate the building blocks of quantum field theory within the framework of categorical quantum mechanics.

Dirac's hole theory versus quantum field theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Dirac's hole theory and quantum field theory are usually considered equivalent to each other. For models of a certain type, however, the equivalence may not hold as we discuss in this Letter.

Critical 1- and 2-point spin correlations for the O(2) model in 3d bounded domains

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2021
We study the critical properties of the 3d O(2) universality class in bounded domains through Monte Carlo simulations of the clock model. We use an improved version of the latter, chosen to minimize finite-size corrections at criticality, with 8 ...

PERTURBATIVE QUANTUM FIELD THEORY [PDF]

open access: yesChallenges for the 21st Century, 2001
This talk introduces perturbative quantum field on a heuristic level. It is directed at an audience familiar with elements of quantum mechanics, but not necessarily with high energy physics. It includes a discussion of the strategies behind experimental tests of fundamental theories, and of the field theory interpretations of these tests.
