Design and analysis of communication protocols for quantum repeater networks

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2016
We analyze how the performance of a quantum-repeater network depends on the protocol employed to distribute entanglement, and we find that the choice of repeater-to-repeater link protocol has a profound impact on entanglement-distribution rate as a ...

Block encryption of quantum messages [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In modern cryptography, block encryption is a fundamental cryptographic primitive. However, it is impossible for block encryption to achieve the same security as one-time pad.

Reducing Open‐Circuit Voltage Losses in Wide‐Bandgap FAPbBr3 Perovskite Solar Cells for Continuous Unassisted Light‐Driven Water Splitting

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The combination of formamidinium thiocyanate and 1,3‐propane diammonium iodide for bulk and top‐surface passivation, and a ternary fullerene blend to improve energy band alignment, suppresses energy losses in wide‐bandgap FAPbBr3 perovskite solar cells.

Circuit-noise-resilient virtual distillation

open access: yesCommunications Physics
Quantum error mitigation (QEM) is vital for improving quantum algorithms’ accuracy on noisy near-term devices. A typical QEM method, called Virtual Distillation (VD), can suffer from imperfect implementation, potentially leading to worse outcomes than ...

Impact of Humidity on Quartz-Enhanced Photoacoustic Spectroscopy Based CO Detection Using a Near-IR Telecommunication Diode Laser

open access: yesSensors, 2016
A near-IR CO trace gas sensor based on quartz-enhanced photoacoustic spectroscopy (QEPAS) is evaluated using humidified nitrogen samples. Relaxation processes in the CO-N2-H2O system are investigated.

Tuning the Electronic Structure and Spin State of Fe─N─C Catalysts Using an Axial Oxygen Ligand and Fe Clusters for High‐Efficiency Rechargeable Zinc–Air Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A FeN4─O/Clu@NC‐0.1Ac catalyst containing atomically‐dispersed FeN4─O sites (medium‐spin Fe2+) and Fe clusters delivered a half‐wave potential of 0.89 V for ORR and an overpotential of 330 mV at 10 mA cm−2 for OER in 0.1 m KOH. When the catalyst was used in a rechargeable Zn–air battery, a power density of 284.5 mW cm−2 was achieved with excellent ...

Robust Quantum Public-Key Encryption with Applications to Quantum Key Distribution

open access: yes
Quantum key distribution (QKD) allows Alice and Bob to agree on a shared secret key, while communicating over a public (untrusted) quantum channel. Compared to classical key exchange, it has two main advantages: (i) The key is unconditionally hidden to the eyes of any attacker, and (ii) its security assumes only the existence of authenticated classical

Trap‐Modified Inverted Organic Photodetectors via Layer‐by‐Layer Processing with Poly(N‐vinylcarbazole) Additives

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Trap state engineering in inverted organic photodetectors (OPDs) is achieved via combined layer‐by‐layer (LbL) processing and poly(N‐vinylcarbazole) (PVK) incorporation. LbL reduces the trap density while PVK additives gradually shift trap states from shallow band‐edge to deep mid‐gap levels, tailoring the energy distribution.
