Continuous Measurement of a Non-Markovian Open Quantum System

open access: yes, 2014
Continuous quantum measurement is the backbone of various methods in quantum control, quantum metrology, and quantum information. Here, we present a generalized formulation of dispersive measurement of a complex quantum systems.

MEASUREMENT IN QUANTUM PHYSICS [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Modern Physics E, 1999
The conceptual problems in quantum mechanics — related to the collapse of the wave function, the particle-wave duality, the meaning of measurement — arise from the need to ascribe particle character to the wave function. As will be shown, all these problems dissolve when working instead with quantum fields, which have both wave and particle character.

Toward Knowledge‐Based Workflows: A Semantic Approach to Atomistic Simulations for Mechanical and Thermodynamic Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Knowledge‐based atomistic workflows are presented for mechanical and thermodynamic properties. By coupling modular simulations with ontology‐aligned metadata and provenance, Fe case studies on elastic behavior, defects, thermal properties, and Hall–Petch strengthening reveal how FAIR, queryable, and reusable simulation data can be generated. Mechanical

Uncertainty limits for quantum metrology obtained from the statistics of weak measurements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Quantum metrology uses small changes in the output probabilities of a quantum measurement to estimate the magnitude of a weak interaction with the system.

Cathodic Cage Plasma Deposition of Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se Coatings on Poly(methyl Methacrylate)

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se coatings are deposited on PMMA by a modified cathodic cage plasma process, enabling low‐temperature deposition on polymer substrates. A transition from discontinuous to compact morphology is observed with temperature, with optimal properties at 200°C, where improved CuFeSe2‐type bonding, lowest sheet resistance, and favorable ...

Near-Field Microwave Imaging Method of Monopole Antennas Based on Nitrogen-Vacancy Centers in Diamond

open access: yesMicromachines
Visualizing the near-field distribution of microwave field in a monopole antenna is very important for antenna design and manufacture. However, the traditional method of measuring antenna microwave near field distribution by mechanical scanning has some ...

A scalable, high-speed measurement-based quantum computer using trapped ions

open access: yes, 2009
We describe a scalable, high-speed, and robust architecture for measurement-based quantum-computing with trapped ions. Measurement-based architectures offer a way to speed-up operation of a quantum computer significantly by parallelizing the slow ...

An Experimental High‐Throughput Approach for the Screening of Hard Magnet Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An entire workflow for the high‐throughput characterization and analysis of compositionally graded magnetic films is presented. Characterization protocols, data management tools and data analysis approaches are illustrated with test case Sm(Fe, V)12 based films.

A measurement of quantum fears

open access: yesNew Directions in the Teaching of Physical Sciences, 2013
There are anecdotal indications that students avoid questions involving time-dependent exam problems in quantum mechanics. To obtain real evidence, a diagnostic questionnaire has been created and administered to third-year students. It measures students' understanding of quantum mechanics in general, with an emphasis on misconceptions and threshold ...

Exploring Dipolar Dynamics and Ionic Transport in Metal‐Organic Frameworks: Experimental and Theoretical Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the interplay of dipolar dynamics and ionic charge transport in MOF compounds is investigated. Synthesizing the novel structure CFA‐25 with integrated freely rotating dipolar groups, local and macroscopic effects, including interactions with Cs cations are explored.
