Compact Single‐Shot Incoherent Edge Detection With a Polarization‐Multiplexed Metalens

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
A polarization‐sensitive metalens enables single‐shot incoherent edge detection by generating two polarization‐dependent images and digitally subtracting them to realize a high‐pass optical transfer function. ABSTRACT Edge detection under incoherent illumination is highly desirable for compact vision systems but remains challenging due to the lack of ...

Quantum Information in Geometric Quantum Mechanics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A fundamental starting point in quantum information theory is the consideration of the von Neumann entropy and its generalization to relative quantum entropies.

Emergence of Rashba Spin‐Orbit Coupling in Staggered‐Gyromagnetic Photonic Crystals

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
Rashba spin‐orbit coupling emerges in a staggered‐gyromagnetic photonic crystal under a uniform out‐of‐plane magnetic bias. The staggered magnetization splits a four‐fold Dirac point into a Rashba band structure carrying helical spin textures, verified by a four‐band k‐p model.

Does Quantum Mechanics Breed Larger, More Intricate Quantum Theories? The Case for Experience-Centric Quantum Theory and the Interactome of Quantum Theories

open access: yes
We pose and address the radical question of whether quantum mechanics, known for its firm internal structure and enormous empirical success, carries in itself the genomes of larger quantum theories that have higher internal intricacy and phenomenological

Quantum metaphotonics: Recent advances and perspective

open access: yesAPL Quantum
Quantum metaphotonics has emerged as a cutting-edge subfield of meta-optics employing subwavelength resonators and their planar structures, such as metasurfaces, to generate, manipulate, and detect quantum states of light.

Drive‐Efficient GHz‐Rate Binary‐State Updates Enabled by VCSEL Polarization Switching

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
Photonic computing needs a compact node that can hold a binary state and update it fast. A vertical‐cavity surface‐emitting laser biased at its polarization‐switching point could serve as one: its two orthogonal linear polarizations are the two states, and a small electrical drive is enough to move the output from one state to the other at gigahertz ...

Triple Space‐Polarization On–Off‐Key Modulation With AlN‐Based Tri‐Focal Metalens

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 15, Issue 18, 25 September 2026.
An AlN tri‐focal metalens made of high‐temperature‐annealed AlN by integrating zone‐plate null rings into a polarization‐selective bifocal metalens. The incident light will be focused into two or three foci on the focal plane, each with a distinct polarization state.

Multi‐Objective Inverse Design of a Dual‐Narrowband Thermal Emitter for Optical Gas Sensing

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 15, Issue 18, 25 September 2026.
A lithography‐free, wafer‐scale dual‐narrowband thermal emitter is developed using a multi‐objective inverse design framework. It comprises an aperiodic Si/SiO2 dielectric multilayer deposited on a TiN refractory conductive ceramic film. Its dual emission peaks match characteristic absorption bands of CH4 and NO2 and enhance responses to both gases ...

Second‐Harmonic Generation Enhancement in Polar Dielectric Films via Nonlocal Longitudinal Modes and Berreman Modes

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 15, Issue 18, 25 September 2026.
Nonlocal longitudinal resonances in ultrathin AlN enable thickness‐controlled harmonic matching between a resonance at the fundamental frequency and the Berreman resonance at the second‐harmonic frequency. The resulting simultaneous field enhancement at both frequencies substantially amplifies the predicted second‐harmonic response, revealing a double ...
