Reduced Integration‐Based Stabilization for Virtual Elements

open access: yesProceedings in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Volume 25, Issue 4, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Stabilization techniques in combination with reduced integration are often employed in numerical methods to address problems of locking while reducing computational costs. In finite elements, concepts such as enhanced assumed strain (EAS) methods are usually employed in combination with stabilization techniques to tackle certain locking ...

Challenges in Automatic Differentiation and Numerical Integration in Physics‐Informed Neural Networks Modelling

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, Volume 126, Issue 20, 30 October 2025.
ABSTRACT In this paper, we numerically examine the precision challenges that emerge in automatic differentiation and numerical integration in various tasks now tackled by physics‐informed neural networks (PINNs). Specifically, we illustrate how ill‐posed problems or inaccurately computed functions can cause serious precision issues in differentiation ...

Symmetrized Poisson Reconstruction

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, Volume 44, Issue 5, August 2025.
Abstract Many common approaches for reconstructing surfaces from point clouds leverage normal information to fit an implicit function to the points. Normals typically play two roles: the direction provides a planar approximation to the surface and the sign distinguishes inside from outside.

Influence of Form and Structural Features of Open‐Cell Hybrid Foam on the Remanent Magnetic Scanning

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 12, June 2025.
Simulations using an equivalent model are performed to improve the understanding of remanent magnetic scanning of hybrid foam samples for coating thickness estimation. The model allows to study the influence of isolated geometrical features such as layer thickness, boundary effects, as well as effects due to the statistical nature of the foams, which ...

Higher order gravities and the Strong Equivalence Principle

open access: yes, 2017
We show that, in all metric theories of gravity with a general covariant action, gravity couples to the gravitational energy-momentum tensor in the same way it couples to the matter energy-momentum tensor order by order in the weak field approximation ...

Monolithic Newton‐Multigrid Finite Element Methods for the Simulation of Thixoviscoplastic Flows

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, Volume 97, Issue 4, Page 565-604, April 2025.
ABSTRACT In this paper, we shall be concerned with the development, application, and numerical analysis of the monolithic Newton‐Multigrid finite element method (FEM) to simulate thixoviscoplastic (TVP) flows. We demonstrate the importance of robustness and efficiency of Newton‐Multigrid FEM solver for obtaining accurate solutions.

Variational approach to multimode nonlinear optical fibers

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 14, Issue 6, Page 805-813, April 2025.
Abstract We analyze the spatiotemporal solitary waves of a graded‐index multimode optical fiber with a parabolic transverse index profile. Using the nonpolynomial Schrödinger equation approach, we derive an effective one‐dimensional Lagrangian associated with the Laguerre–Gauss modes with a generic radial mode number p and azimuthal index m.

Derivation of Shape Functions for Nine‐Node Rectangular Element Based on Steady‐State Heat Conduction

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
This paper presents a novel method for deriving shape functions of a nine‐node rectangular element based on solving the steady‐state heat conduction equation. Unlike traditional methods using Lagrange polynomials, this approach utilizes a linear combination of temperature distribution (TD) coefficients to extract second‐order shape functions for a one ...

One level density of low-lying zeros of quadratic and quartic Hecke $L$-functions

open access: yes, 2019
In this paper, we prove some one level density results for the low-lying zeros of famliies of quadratic and quartic Hecke $L$-functions of the Gaussian field.

Investigating the Influence of Petrophysical Parameter in Gravel Packing Sand Control Applications

open access: yesGeofluids, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Gravel packing is a primary method for sand control in hydrocarbon wells, with its effectiveness primarily governed by gravel particle size and packing structure. Current gravel packing designs primarily rely on empirical engineering experience, while rock physics models for quantifying gravel packing permeability remain underdeveloped.
