Temperature-Dependent Refractive Index of Quartz at Terahertz Frequencies

open access: yesJournal of Infrared, Millimeter and Terahertz Waves, 2018
Characterisation of materials often requires the use of a substrate to support the sample being investigated. For optical characterisation at terahertz frequencies, quartz is commonly used owing to its high transmission and low absorption at these ...

Investigating the Cellular Effects of GALC Dosing in Enzyme Replacement Therapy for Krabbe Disease Supports the Role of Nanomedicine

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
A detailed workflow for recombinant GALC production and characterization is presented to support enzyme replacement therapy for Krabbe disease. In vitro assays demonstrate that physiological GALC doses restore enzymatic activity and autophagic flux without affecting cell viability, whereas higher doses impair autophagy and reduce viability.

Quartz-Seq2: a high-throughput single-cell RNA-sequencing method that effectively uses limited sequence reads

open access: yesGenome Biology, 2017
High-throughput single-cell RNA-seq methods assign limited unique molecular identifier (UMI) counts as gene expression values to single cells from shallow sequence reads and detect limited gene counts.

Phase Stability Study of the Marcasite‐Structure Solid Solutions (Fe,TM)Sb2 (TM = Cr, Ni) Synthesized via Combinatorial Co‐Deposition and Antimonization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase diagrams of transition‐metal di‐pnictides have been efficiently and quickly explored by combinatorial deposition of transition‐metal films and subsequent antimonization enabling the study of compounds with volatile elements. In (Fe,Ni)Sb2 and the (Fe,Cr)Sb2 substitution series, phase separation has been evidenced between class‐A and B marcasites ...

A Simulative Approach for the Prediction of Mesoscale Residual Stress Fields in Solution‐Strengthened Ferritic Ductile Iron

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a 3D representative volume element‐based simulation approach to predict mesoscopic residual stress and strain fields in silicon solid solution‐strengthened ductile cast iron. By modeling phase transformation kinetics with an enhanced Johnson–Mehl–Avrami–Kolmogorov model, the effects of varying cooling rates on residual stresses are ...

Vacuum‐Formed Composites Based on a Polyolefin and a High Content of Biomass‐Waste Fillers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown here that by the use of a very ductile polymer matrix, it is possible to vacuum‐form products that contain up to 25% of hard biofillers with still ductile properties. The results are promising and opens up for the use of engineered biocomposites derived from industrial side‐stream biofillers in vacuum‐formed products. A strategy to increase

Linear regression and artificial neural network models for predicting abrasive water jet marble drilling quality

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2022
Marble is a fragile and heterogeneous material whose properties vary depending on the nature and origin of the marble. Therefore, the marble machining process requires the skills and know-how of the stone cutter to manually configure the machining ...
