Monitoring Broad Absorption-Line Quasar Variability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Winds generated by an accreting super massive black hole may provide feedback to the host galaxy and offer an explanation for the co-evolution of galaxies with their super massive black holes that has been reported in the literature.

Modeling Broad Absorption Line Quasars with Spectral Synthesis: Program Development and Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Quasars with broad absorption lines (BALQSOs) are often the target of outflow studies because these features are clear markers of energetic winds. Within this population is a class known as FeLoBALs, named for the FeII broad absorption lines they have ...

Investigating Ionization in the Intergalactic Medium

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The intergalactic medium (IGM) contains >50% of the baryonic mass of the Universe, yet the mechanisms responsible for keeping the IGM ionized have not been fully explained.

Is X-ray Absorption from Quasar Absorption Line Systems Detectable?

open access: yes, 1997
Using the known properties and statistics of intervening quasar absorption systems, we calculate the cumulative absorption out to high redshifts at soft X-ray (E ! 1 keV) energies. Although photoelectric absorption in quasar absorption systems provides a

EIGER IV. The Cool 104 K Circumgalactic Environment of High-redshift Galaxies Reveals Remarkably Efficient Intergalactic Medium Enrichment

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We report new observations of the cool diffuse gas around 29, 2.3 < z < 6.3 galaxies using deep JWST/NIRCam slitless grism spectroscopy around the sight line to the quasar J0100+2802. The galaxies span a stellar mass range of $7.1\leqslant {\rm{log}}{M}_{

Subaru high-resolution spectroscopy of complex metal absorption lines of the quasar HS 1603+3820

open access: yesSubaru high-resolution spectroscopy of complex metal absorption lines of the quasar HS 1603+3820
We present a high-resolution spectrum of the quasar HS 1603+ 3820 (z(em) = 2.542), observed with the High Dispersion Spectrograph on the Subaru Telescope. This quasar, first discovered in the Hamburg/CfA Quasar Survey, has 11 C IV lines at 1.96 < z(abs) < 2.55.
