Polarization of quasi-static fading channels
2013 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory, 2013This work investigates polar coding for block-fading channels. We show that polarization does occur at infinity for three types of channel multiplexers. Nevertheless, the polarization process is not unique, as it is shaped by the choice of the multiplexer.

The Quasi-static Approximation
1990As has already been pointed out several times, when atmospheric phenomena are analyzed on what is called a synoptic scale (for which L is of the order of 106 m), the anisotropic parameter of the atmosphere e = H/L can be estimated to be at least 10−2. The reason for this is that these phenomena take place essentially throughout the entire troposphere ...

This final chapter deals with quasi-static deformation of compact particle systems with enduring contacts. Although DEM can be applied to more dynamic problems, as illustrated in previous chapters, the original BALL and TRUBAL codes were intended to be used to examine quasi-static deformation in the context of soil mechanics.

We recall briefly the Hertz theory of elastic contact. Diverse extensions including adhesion, or solid friction at the contact zone are briefly discussed. Other behavior laws than elasticity (plasticity, damage, fracture, visco-elasticity) are examined to analyse the limitation of the hertzian description.

A quasi-static method of analysis is used often in engineering practice for the design of structures subjected to dynamic loadings. It simplifies both theoretical and numerical methods of analysis, and, in the appropriate circumstances, captures the principal features of the response.
