Thermalization from gauge/gravity duality: Evolution of singularities in unequal time correlators

open access: yes, 2012
We consider a gauge/gravity dual model of thermalization which consists of a collapsing thin matter shell in asymptotically Anti-de Sitter space. A central aspect of our model is to consider a shell moving at finite velocity as determined by its equation

A generalized asymptotic extraction solution for antennas in multilayered spherical media [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
An efficient model is developed to accelerate the convergence of the dyadic Green's function's (DGF) infinite summation when the source and observation points are placed in different layers of a dielectric sphere, thereby expediting computational ...

Clustering Algorithm Reveals Dopamine‐Motor Mismatch in Cognitively Preserved Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To explore the relationship between dopaminergic denervation and motor impairment in two de novo Parkinson's disease (PD) cohorts. Methods n = 249 PD patients from Parkinson's Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI) and n = 84 from an external clinical cohort.

Geometrical enhancement of the electric field: Application of fractional calculus in nanoplasmonics

open access: yes, 2011
We developed an analytical approach, for a wave propagation in metal-dielectric nanostructures in the quasi-static limit. This consideration establishes a link between fractional geometry of the nanostructure and fractional integro-differentiation.

Prediction of Surface Topography Parameters in Direct Laser Interference Patterning of Stainless Steel Using Infrared Monitoring and Convolutional Neural Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents an infrared monitoring approach for direct laser interference patterning (DLIP) combined with a convolutional neural network (CNN). Thermal emission data captured during structuring are used to predict surface topography parameters.

Scalar Perturbations of Charged Dilaton Black Holes

open access: yes, 2003
We have studied the scalar perturbation of static charged dilaton black holes in 3+1 dimensions. The black hole considered here is a solution to the low-energy string theory in 3+1 dimensions.

A Numerical–Experimental Approach for Multi‐Matrix Fiber‐Reinforced Plastics Characterization Using Finite Element Model Updating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

Research on Quasi-Static Transmission Error Measurement of Spur Gears Based on the Acceleration Method

open access: yesMachines
Transmission error (TE) is an important parameter in gear dynamics that has a direct impact on the vibration and noise of gears. Under quasi-static conditions, gear elastic deformation and assembly errors amplify with increasing load, potentially ...

Dynamic and quasi-static signal separation method for bridges under moving loads based on long-gauge FBG strain monitoring

open access: yesJournal of Low Frequency Noise, Vibration and Active Control, 2019
Structural health monitoring is an important means of obtaining the state information of bridges, and the extracted quasi-static strain signal can reflect the stress state of bridges directly.

Releasing scalar fields: cosmological simulations of scalar-tensor theories for gravity beyond the static approximation

open access: yes, 2013
Several extensions of General Relativity and high energy physics include scalar fields as extra degrees of freedom. In the search for predictions in the non-linear regime of cosmological evolution, the community makes use of numerical simulations in ...
