Permanent magnets derive their extraordinary strength from deep, universal electronic‐structure principles that control magnetization, anisotropy, and intrinsic performance. This work uncovers those governing rules, examines modern modeling and AI‐driven discovery methods, identifies critical bottlenecks, and reveals electronic fingerprints shared ...

An Improved Structural Analysis Method for Isolator with Quasi-Zero-Stiffness Characteristic
A typical quasi-zero-stiffness (QZS) vibration isolator consisting of a vertical spring and two oblique springs has been widely researched on its static and dynamic characteristics.

MAGTWIST: A compact magnetic rotary actuator, enabling smooth, stepless rotation, and on‐demand locking. Inspired by peristalsis, a soft polymer belt generates a traveling‐wave, enabling 270° rotation when heated. Cooling stiffens the belt, locking it in position and enabling it to withstand high loads.

Adaptive Twisting Metamaterials
This work introduces torque‐controlled twisting metamaterials as a transformative platform for adaptive crashworthiness. By combining multiscale predictive modeling with experimental validation on additively manufactured gyroids, it demonstrates tunable stiffness, collapse stress, and energy absorption.

Quasi-zero stiffness isolator based on bistable structures with variable cross-section
Simple and light-weighted quasi-zero stiffness (QZS) isolators can be designed based on nonlinear and negative stiffness generated by the snap-through effect of bistable structures.

Solving the Optimal Mistuning Problem by Symmetry: A General Framework for Extending Flutter Boundaries in Turbomachines via Mistuning [PDF]
A general framework is presented for analyzing and optimizing stability increases due to mistuning. The framework given is model independent and is based primarily on symmetry arguments.

Quasi-rigidity: some uniqueness issues
Quasi-rigidity means that one builds a theory for assemblies of grains under a slowly changing external load by using the deformation of those grains as a small parameter. Is quasi-rigidity a complete theory for these granular assemblies? Does it provide

Disorder induced brittle to quasi-brittle transition in fiber bundles [PDF]
We investigate the fracture process of a bundle of fibers with random Young modulus and a constant breaking strength. For two component systems we show that the strength of the mixture is always lower than the strength of the individual components.

Residual magnetization induces pronounced mechanical anisotropy in ultra‐soft magnetorheological elastomers, shaping deformation and actuation even without external magnetic fields. This study introduces a computational‐experimental framework integrating magneto‐mechanical coupling into topology optimization for designing soft magnetic actuators with ...
