Analysis of the gain distribution across the active region of InGaAs-InAlGaAs multiple quantum well lasers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Spectral gain measurements for two InGaAs-InAlGaAs multiple width quantum well structures, with inverse-configured active regions, have been presented. One structure consisted of wide quantum wells near the p-side and narrow quantum wells near the n-side

Peripheral blood proteome biomarkers distinguish immunosuppressive features of cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Immune status significantly influences cancer progression. This study used plasma proteomics to analyze benign 67NR and malignant 4T1 breast tumor models at early and late tumor stages. Immune‐related proteins–osteopontin (Spp1), lactotransferrin (Ltf), calreticulin (Calr) and peroxiredoxin 2 (Prdx2)–were associated with systemic myeloid‐derived ...

Academician Vladimir Laskarev (1868-1954) and Paratethys [PDF]

open access: yesGeološki Anali Balkanskoga Poluostrva
Vladimir Laskarev (1868–1954) Russian and Serbian geologist strongly influenced geological literature by introducing a scientific term Paratethys for the series of intercontinental water basins separated from the Mediterranean Sea and the World Ocean by ...

Quaternary matroids are vf-safe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Binary delta-matroids are closed under vertex flips, which consist of the natural operations of twist and loop complementation. In this note we provide an extension of this result from GF(2) to GF(4).

ShcD adaptor protein drives invasion of triple negative breast cancer cells by aberrant activation of EGFR signaling

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identified adaptor protein ShcD as upregulated in triple‐negative breast cancer and found its expression to be correlated with reduced patient survival and increased invasion in cell models. Using a proteomic screen, we identified novel ShcD binding partners involved in EGFR signaling pathways.

Quaternary stratigraphy: Recent changes [PDF]

open access: yesGlasnik Srpskog Geografskog Društva, 2012
Corrections to the Quaternary stratigraphic division of Serbia was updated/renewed by lowering limit of the Pleistocene / Quaternary to the beginning of the Gelasian that is at approximately 2.588 million years.

High SNR BER Comparison of Coherent and Differentially Coherent Modulation Schemes in Lognormal Fading Channels

open access: yes, 2014
Using an auxiliary random variable technique, we prove that binary differential phase-shift keying and binary phase-shift keying have the same asymptotic bit-error rate performance in lognormal fading channels.

Equiatomic quaternary Heusler alloys: A material perspective for spintronic applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Half-metallic ferromagnetic (HMF) materials show high spin polarization and are therefore interesting to researchers due to their possible applications in spintronic devices.

Inhibitor of DNA binding‐1 is a key regulator of cancer cell vasculogenic mimicry

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Elevated expression of transcriptional regulator inhibitor of DNA binding 1 (ID1) promoted cancer cell‐mediated vasculogenic mimicry (VM) through regulation of pro‐angiogenic and pro‐cancerous genes (e.g. VE‐cadherin (CDH5), TIE2, MMP9, DKK1). Higher ID1 expression also increased metastases to the lung and the liver.

Process for purification of waste water produced by a Kraft process pulp and paper mill [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
The water from paper and pulp wastes obtained from a mill using the Kraft process is purified by precipitating lignins and lignin derivatives from the waste stream with quaternary ammonium compounds, removing other impurities by activated carbon produced
