The effects of a (poly)phenol‐rich food intervention on markers of exercise‐induced inflammation and oxidative stress: A randomised controlled trial

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract This study examined whether consuming a (poly)phenol‐rich food before strenuous muscle‐damaging exercise can modify post‐exercise markers of inflammation and oxidative stress. Using a double‐blinded, randomised, placebo‐controlled, between‐subjects design, 26 recreationally active males (n = 15) and females (n = 11) consumed higher‐(poly ...

A Pilot Metagenomic Study Demonstrating Virtual Reality Head Mounted Displays Utilized in Medical Education Are Reservoirs of Viable Pathogenic Microbes

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 2, April 2026.
Metagenomic analysis identified 27 pathogenic bacteria including 4 "ESKAPE" pathogens (Enterobacter sp., Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella spp., and Escherichia coli) and numerous organisms associated with ocular infections. A broad range of antimicrobial resistance genes were identified conveying resistance to Methicillin, Aminoglycosides, Macrolides,

Contact Allergy to Ingredients of Hair Cosmetics Associated with Occupational and Non‐Occupational Exposure—Trends from 1995 to 2020 in Central Europe, with or without Regulation

open access: yesContact Dermatitis, Volume 94, Issue 4, Page 347-363, April 2026.
Among 2678 female hairdressers and 6244 female consumers with contact dermatitis suspected to be related to use of hair cosmetics, including dyes, patch tested in the IVDK between 1995 and 2020, diverging contact allergy trends were observed. In the case of toluene‐2,5‐diamine (PTD) shown in the figure, sensitization was at a stable, high level in ...

A Mechanochemical Kolbe–Schmitt Reaction: Catechol Carboxylation Provides Building Blocks for Renewable Plasticizers

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 12, 16 March 2026.
A mechanochemical Kolbe–Schmitt reaction of disodium catecholate enables the synthesis of mono‐ and dicarboxylated catechols at low temperature and CO2 pressure. Directly derivatizing the resulting carboxylic acid and phenolic moieties in the obtained mixture provides plasticizer blends with efficiencies competitive to commercial benchmarks.

Polymorphism in Tetramethylammonium Selenocyanate – Crystal Structures of α‐, β‐, and γ‐[NMe4][SeCN]

open access: yesZeitschrift für anorganische und allgemeine Chemie, Volume 652, Issue 5, 18 March 2026.
This study reports the synthesis and crystallographic investigation of tetramethylammonium selenocyanate. The structures of α‐, β‐, and γ‐[NMe4][SeCN] are related to one another and also to the CsCl‐type. In the solid state, tetramethylammonium selenocyanate, [NMe4][SeCN], is polymorphic.

Synthesis and Characterization of a Cerium(IV) Coordination Polymer Containing Isonicotinic Acid Zwitterions

open access: yesZeitschrift für anorganische und allgemeine Chemie, Volume 652, Issue 4, 17 March 2026.
The new coordination polymer [Ce4O2(OH)2(NO3)2(C6H5NO2)8](NO3)8 is reported. It was discovered during a ligand screening experiment. Its crystallization was studied in situ via powder X‐ray diffraction and X‐ray absorption near‐edge structure spectroscopy.

Mechanism and Molecular Design Principles of Cationic Surfactants: From Charge‐Driven Membrane Interactions to Next‐Generation Quaternary Ammonium Compounds

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 21, Issue 5, 13 March 2026.
Within this review we provide an overview of the social relevance of quaternary ammonium surfactants, different classes of these agents, their interaction mechanism with cellular membranes, structure activity relation, bacterial resistance toward these systems and new approaches to guarantee their long‐term efficiency.

Quaternary Ammonium Salts: Insights into Synthesis and New Directions in Antibacterial Applications.

Bioconjugate chemistry, 2023
The overuse of antibiotics has led to the emergence of a large number of antibiotic-resistant genes in bacteria, and increasing evidence indicates that a fungicide with an antibacterial mechanism different from that of antibiotics is needed.

Starch/poly (butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) blown films contained the quaternary ammonium salts with different N-alkyl chain lengths as antimicrobials.

Food Chemistry, 2023
Antimicrobial biodegradable packaging is in high demand as a one-two punch against microbiological and plastic hazards. Two quaternary ammonium salts (QAS) with different N-alkyl chain lengths were used for starch/poly (butylene adipate-co-terephthalate)
