The Growth of Seedlings of Quercus Petraea
The Journal of Ecology, 1960Acorns were planted in a variety of soils in each of three cages (1.3 m high x 3-7 m long x 2*4 m wide) constructed to reproduce artificially different canopy densities. The acorns were collected in the grounds of Wray Castle near Lake Windermere in November of 1955 from under a group of four mature trees of Q.

Localization of the ellagitannins in the tissues of Quercus robur and Quercus petraea woods
Phytochemistry, 1994Abstract The heartwoods of a pedunculate oak and a sessile oak were each dissected into four fractions according to tissue type. The ellagitannins roburins A–E, grandinin, castalagin, and vescalagin in each fraction were determined by HPLC. The ellagitannin distributions in the wood of the two species were found to be identical. Both the longitudinal

Proanthocyanidins fromQuercus petraeaBark
Planta Medica, 1993Flavanols and oligomeric proantho-cyanidins were isolated from oak bark ( QUERCUS PETRAEA) and characterized by acid hydrolysis, gel permeation chromatography, haemanalysis, and complete as well as partial thiolytic degradation. The proantho-cyanidins had an average polymerization degree of 6.1 and a procyanidin: prodelphinidin ratio of 6:4.

Ellagitannins and Complex Tannins from Quercus petraea Bark
Journal of Natural Products, 1994The ellagitannins 2,3-(S)-hexahydroxydiphenoyl-glucose, pedunculagin, vescalagin, and castalagin; the flavanoellagitannins acutissimin A, acutissimin B, eugenigrandin A, guajavin B, and stenophyllanin C; and the procyanidinoellagitannin mongolicanin have been isolated from the bark of Quercus petraea.

Development of microsatellite loci from Quercus robur and Quercus petraea
1996The importance of genetic polymorphism detected by microsatellite sequences is now well established in mammalian and recently also in some plant genomes. In this study a size selected genomic library from Quercus petraea and Q. robur, the most common oak species in Europe, were screened for GA-microsatellite sequences and the resulting loci were ...

Response of Quercus petraea seedlings to nitrogen fertilization
Forest Ecology and Management, 2001In view of increasing concern about long-term effects of N deposition on forest ecosystem, decline of oak stands in many central European countries, and poor documentation of nutrient budgets of oak stands, a pot experiment was performed on N-fertilized oak seedlings (Quercus petraea Liebl.) to study impact on biomass, morphology and nutrition ...

Ontogeny of the proventitious epicormic buds in Quercus petraea.
Trees, 1999In the present work, we described the fate of proventitious epicormic buds on the trunks of 40-year-old Quercus petraea trees and in parallel the vascular trace they produced in the wood. Our results show that small and large individual epicormic buds can survive as buds for 40 years and that both are composed of a terminal meristem and scales ...

Plant Ecology, 2005
The inverse relationship between numbers of stomata (stomatal frequency) on tree leaves and ambient CO2 concentration is increasingly applied for reconstructing past atmospheric CO2 levels. The abundance of leaf remains of Quercus robur in Holocene peat and lake deposits in Europe makes this species potentially suitable for high-resolution stomatal ...

Development of structural root architecture and allometry of Quercus petraea
Canadian Journal of Forest Research, 1999Root growth direction, radial distribution of roots, and biomass partitioning within the root system were examined on fifty-five 20 and 28-year-old sessile oak (Quercus petraea (Matt.) Liebl.) trees. The root systems were spatially subdivided into three concentric cylinders.
