The winner doesn't need to take it all: Unravelling the gendered value of work time

open access: yesInternational Journal of Management Reviews, EarlyView.
Abstract How people understand, negotiate and use time at work shapes their daily experiences. Yet, when work time is divided, allocated and valued in workplaces, women often lose out. Despite pervasive empirical evidence of gender gaps, research has largely overlooked the deeper role of time in shaping inequality.

An effective and efficient matheuristic for the electric vehicle routing problem with capacitated recharging stations

open access: yesInternational Transactions in Operational Research, EarlyView.
Abstract In this paper, we address the problem of routing a fleet of electric vehicles (EVs) to serve a set of customers, geographically distributed, within their time windows. We assume that EVs may also be recharged en route, and the amount of energy recharged at a recharging station (RS) is a decision variable itself, that is, partial recharges are ...

Evaluation of drone system for thinning operations–a case study in Sweden

open access: yesInternational Transactions in Operational Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Thinning operations in forestry typically involve a two‐machine system (TMS) with a harvester and a forwarder. Its productivity in different forest conditions is well documented. To date, drones have been used for data collection and surveillance but not as an alternative to a TMS.

Optimization of structural assembly scheduling in the aeronautics industry

open access: yesInternational Transactions in Operational Research, EarlyView.
Abstract In the aeronautical industry, structural assembly refers to the stage in which parts, subassemblies, and main aircraft structures are fitted together, forming aerostructures. Aircraft structural assembly requires many complex activities to be performed over an intricate precedence network and is subject to interactions among the various ...

A genetic algorithm for scheduling an automated machine cell with tool and pallet–fixture setups

open access: yesInternational Transactions in Operational Research, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper solves the scheduling problem of identical parallel machines with tooling and pallet–fixture constraints in a high‐mix, low‐volume, high‐complexity manufacturing environment. The machines are connected through an automated material handling device and in‐between buffer places that allow for autonomous production.
