Approximate Analysis of General Queuing Networks
IBM Journal of Research and Development, 1975An approximate iterative technique for the analysis of complex queuing networks with general service times is presented. The technique is based on an application of Norton's theorem from electrical circuit theory to queuing networks which obey local balance.

Approximate Queuing Models for Multiprogramming Computer Systems
Operations Research, 1973In a multiprogramming computer system several jobs may be handled simultaneously by utilizing the central processing unit in processing one job while other jobs are being served by the peripheral devices. Our analysis of such a computer system proceeds in the following way.

Approximate Analysis Of The Limited Resources Queuing System With Signals
ECMS 2019 Proceedings edited by Mauro Iacono, Francesco Palmieri, Marco Gribaudo, Massimo Ficco, 2019Queuing systems with limited resources, in which customers require a device and a certain amount of limited resources for the duration of their service, proved their effectiveness in the performance analysis of modern wireless networks. However using queuing systems leads to complex calculations.

Approximate Analysis of a Hierarchical Queuing Network
Operations Research, 1974A hierarchical queuing network is a layered network of queues in which all arrivals receive initial service from a primary server, and some customers receive additional service jointly from a primary and a secondary server. This paper considers the simplest such network, involving two levels and a single secondary server who functions as a consultant ...

Queuing approximations for capacity planning under common setup rules
IISE Transactions, 2020We consider the problem of estimating the resulting utilization and cycle times in manufacturing settings that are subject to significant capacity losses due to setups when switching between differ...

Approximate Transient Analysis of Some Queuing Systems
Operations Research, 1978We propose approximations for the time-dependent queue size distribution Pn(t) and the mean queue size E[X(t)] of an M/M/1 queue. With a Laplace transform-generating function technique, the exact analysis involves the complex root u* inside the unit circle of a certain quadratic.

Hierarchical fair queuing: single-step approximation of hierarchical-GPS
Global Telecommunications Conference, 2002. GLOBECOM '02. IEEE, 2003We propose a hierarchical packet scheduling technique to closely approximate a hierarchical extension of the generalized processor sharing model, hierarchical generalized processor sharing (H-GPS). Our approach is to undertake the tasks of service guarantee and hierarchical link sharing in an independent manner so that each task best serves its own ...

Bounds and Approximations in Queuing through Monotonicity and Continuity
Operations Research, 1977This paper is a survey of recent research on the monotonicity and continuity of queuing systems and their application to obtain bounds and approximations.

Nonlinear Diffusion Approximations of Queuing Networks
2001The aim of this paper is to sketch two examples of simple queuing networks that possess nonlinear diffusion approximations. These approximations are obtained by considering hydrodynamic limits for the corresponding interacting particle systems obeying various exclusion rules. Asymptotic analysis of the approximating nonlinear pdes is also provided.
