On Effectivity of Delays in Queuing Systems

2013
For queuing systems with cyclic service for reducing of a customer average waiting time before service the delay of beginning service is introduced. The class of queuing systems for which it is advisable to introduce delay is described. The form of optimal function minimizing a customer average waiting time has found.

Distributed Active Measurement of Internet Queuing Delays

2014
Despite growing link capacities, over-dimensioned buffers are still causing, in the Internet of the second decade of the third millennium, hosts to suffer from severe queuing delays (or bufferbloat). While maximum bufferbloat possibly exceeds few seconds, it is far less clear how often this maximum is hit in practice.

ATM scheduling with queuing delay predictions

Conference proceedings on Communications architectures, protocols and applications, 1993
Efficient utilization of cell switched networks supporting diverse applications will require service disciplines that are well designed for the particular quality of service constraints and traffic mix, a difficult task in view of the paucity of information about the expected traffic.

Queuing Behavior and Packet Delays in Network Processor Systems

2007 15th International Symposium on Modeling, Analysis, and Simulation of Computer and Telecommunication Systems, 2007
Network processor systems provide the performance of ASICs combined with the programmability of general-purpose processors. One of the main challenges in designing these systems is the memory subsystem used when forwarding and queueing packets. In this work, we study the queueing behavior and packet delays in a network processor system which works as a

Joint Analysis of Queuing Delays Associated With Secondary Incidents

Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems, 2015
Incidents cause substantial travel delays on urban freeways. Travel delays due to incidents are typically estimated for each incident independently. However, when multiple incidents occur on the same stretch of a roadway, treating them independently and ignoring their interactions leads to inaccurate results, which ultimately may lead to inefficient ...

Efficient fair queuing with decoupled delay-bandwidth guarantees

GLOBECOM'01. IEEE Global Telecommunications Conference (Cat. No.01CH37270), 2002
In this paper we introduce a new scheduling system with decoupled delay bound and bandwidth allocation guarantees. It is based on an existing efficient fair scheduler, Frame-based Fair Queueing (FFQ), and therefore inherits the fairness, simplicity and efficiency of that policy.

Input-queued switches with logarithmic delay

Proceedings of the 4th ACM/IEEE Symposium on Architectures for Networking and Communications Systems, 2008
Typically, a scheduling algorithm for an n x n packet switch with a crossbar as the data fabric divides time into slots, each of duration tp sufficient to transmit a packet. If a scheduling round requires tr > tp time, then the switch can transmit multiple packets, up to s = ⌊tr/tp⌋, between each mapped input-output pair under the current mapping. If s

Start-Up Delays of Queued Vehicles

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2005
Start-up delays of queued vehicles have been studied in past research for evaluation of their impacts on saturation flow rates at downstream traffic signals. A more crucial issue, however, can be the effect of start-up delays of queued vehicles at upstream locations where queued vehicles back up from a traffic signal across a railroad crossing.

Reduction of queuing delays at waste management facilities

Civil Engineering and Environmental Systems, 2002
ile waiting to unload materials at waste management facilities such as landfill sites, transfer stations, and material recovery facilities. These delays can be costly since the program operator must pay for these trucks and their crews to sit idly.

Combined delay- and loss-queuing system

Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1970
The paper presents a detailed study of a combined delay- and loss-queuing system which has limited waiting capacity. The queuing system considered is one with Poisson input, exponential servers and first-come-first-served queue discipline. The stationary-state probabilities of the system and the distribution function of the waiting time are obtained in
