Simplifying Layered Queuing Network Models
2015The amount of detail to include in a performance model is usually regarded as a judgment to be made by an expert modeler and the question “how much detail is necessary?” is seldom asked and is difficult to answer. However, if a simpler model gives essentially the same performance predictions, it may be more useful than a detailed model.

The mathematics of product form queuing networks
ACM Computing Surveys, 1993Markov processes that have a product form solution have become an important computer performance modeling tool. The fact that such a simple solution exists for seemingly complex Markov processes is surprising at first encounter and can be established by showing that balance equations are satisfied.

Queuing networks and facility planning
Building and Environment, 1982Abstract Open, closed, and mixed networks of queues are shown to be viable techniques for modelling public buildings. The optimal access and egress problems of public buildings together with the necessary assumptions, concepts and mathematical details for employing these queuing network models are presented.
