An Extra Quiet Sun

Scientific American, 2010
The article discusses the solar cycle which is an eleven-year period in which the Sun's activity fluctuates. According to the author, sunspots, which are magnetic markers on the Sun's surface, provide helioseismologists with visual cues to the cycle's evolution.

The Quiet Sun

Physics Today, 1974
An up-to-date textbook of solar physics is presented. The solar structure and processes, and the interior are described along with the photosphere, the chromosphere, and the corona. The strongest Fraunhofer lines, visible coronal lines, and coronal UV, XUV, and X-ray lines are listed.

Quiet Sun Magnetic Fields

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2003
The seemingly un‐magnetized part of the solar surface is not really un‐magnetized. It is occupied by magnetic structures producing low polarization which, therefore, escape detection in traditional measurements. Since most of the solar surface belongs to this category, the quiet Sun magnetic fields can easily carry most of the magnetic flux and energy ...

Transition region quiet sun velocity field evolution

Advances in Space Research, 2002
Abstract The UV/EUV SUMER spectrometer aboard SOHO can record profiles of lines emitted by elements at different stages of ionization corresponding to several temperatures within the transition region temperature range. During the solar cycle minimum in July 1996, we were able to observe the quiet Sun during five consecutive days.

The Quiet-Sun Corona

2019
Total solar eclipses provide a unique view of the faint solar corona, without the bright over-powering emission from the solar disk, enabling us to explore the electron density, temperature, thermodynamics, and related fundamental physics (Habbal et al. 2010a, 2011, 2013).
