Neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio as a predictor of response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy and survival in oesophageal adenocarcinoma. [PDF]

The neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio, dichotomized at 2·25, was strongly associated with Mandard tumour regression grade in patients who had neoadjuvant chemotherapy for oesophageal adenocarcinoma. The systemic inflammatory response may offer a novel therapeutic target for patients at risk of poor response.

Multicentre study of perioperative versus adjuvant chemotherapy for resectable colorectal liver metastases. [PDF]

This study aimed to estimate the effect of neoadjuvant FOLFOX in patients undergoing upfront resectable colorectal liver metastases. After adjustment, no significant impact of FOLFOX was detected, suggesting that upfront surgery may be acceptable in patients with limited disease.

Multicentre study of prepectoral breast reconstruction using acellular dermal matrix. [PDF]

A UK multicentre audit of direct‐to‐implant prepectoral breast reconstructions using acellular dermal matrix was conducted for all patients operated on from January 2015 to December 2017 across 18 centres. In a median follow‐up of 9·7 months, the major complication rate was 15·3 per cent and the 90‐day implant removal rate 4·9 per cent.

Following propensity adjustment for stage, age and sex, neoadjuvant therapy was not associated with survival. Tumour regression is a powerful prognostic indicator, and future research should focus on identifying patients who will derive the most benefit from neoadjuvant chemotherapy.
