Fasciola hepatica reinfection potentiates a mixed Th1/Th2/Th17/Treg response and correlates with the clinical phenotypes of anemia. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
BACKGROUND:Fascioliasis is a severe zoonotic disease of worldwide extension caused by liver flukes. In human fascioliasis hyperendemic areas, reinfection and chronicity are the norm and anemia is the main sign.

Mesoporous Semi‐Permeable Flexible Polyurethane Membranes: Advancing Bioartificial Pancreas Design for Type 1 Diabetes Treatment

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
Elastomeric mesoporous membranes are developed for the elaboration of a bioartificial pancreas for type 1 diabetes treatment. Using green‐electrospinning followed by thermal and washing post‐treatments, the membranes achieve ≈20 nm pore sizes, biocompatibility, and mechanical strength and flexibility.

Hydroimidazolone modification of the conserved Arg12 in small heat shock proteins: studies on the structure and chaperone function using mutant mimics. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Methylglyoxal (MGO) is an α-dicarbonyl compound present ubiquitously in the human body. MGO reacts with arginine residues in proteins and forms adducts such as hydroimidazolone and argpyrimidine in vivo.

Effect of Ozone Aging and ZnO Doping on the Mechanical, Thermal, and Chemical Properties of Glass‐Epoxy Composites

open access: yesPolymer Composites, EarlyView.
Ozone aging of ZnO doped glass‐epoxy composites: Impoved strength and stability. ABSTRACT This study explores the effects of ozone exposure and ZnO doping on the mechanical, thermal, and chemical properties of glass‐epoxy composites. Composite samples were subjected to ozone aging under controlled conditions and were modified with 1%, 2%, and 4% ZnO ...

Kohn-Sham calculations combined with an average pair-density functional theory

open access: yes, 2006
A recently developed formalism in which Kohn-Sham calculations are combined with an ``average pair density functional theory'' is reviewed, and some new properties of the effective electron-electron interaction entering in this formalism are derived.

A tribute to Professor Dr Kai A. I. Zhang: pioneering advances in metal‐free polymeric photocatalysis

open access: yesPolymer International, EarlyView.
Polymeric photocatalysts have emerged as metal‐free materials with tunable structures. This review highlights the contributions of Professor Dr Kai A. I. Zhang in advancing polymer‐based photocatalysts. Abstract Polymeric photocatalysts have emerged as promising alternatives to traditional metal‐based catalysts due to their tunable properties, low cost
