Pigments from diverse sources have a great deal of interest due to its multifaceted applications. Hence, this study reports the physicochemical and functional characterization of the black pigment melanin from the marine black yeast Hortaea werneckii R23. In the present study, Hortaea werneckii R23, produced a black pigment in the yeast biomass.
