In this thesis, the fire protection of load-bearing steel structures and their costs are investigated. Steel is a non-combustible material, but when the temperature rises, it loses its material properties significantly. Because of this, load-bearing steel structures often need to be fireproofed.

We have studied the atomic structure of the (2 root 3x2 root)R30 degrees reconstruction induced by adsorption of about 1.1 monolayers of Sn on Si(lll) using surface X-ray diffraction (SXRD) and scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM).

A photoelectron diffraction study of the Pd{111}(√3 × √3)R30°-CO chemisorption phase
Using scanned-energy mode photoelectron diffraction we show that in the Pd{111} (√3 ×√3)R30°-CO phase fee hollow sites are occupied with a carbon-Pd layer spacing of 1.27 (±0.05) Å.
