Uncertainty principle for experimental measurements: Fast versus slow probes

open access: yes, 2015
The result of a physical measurement depends on the timescale of the experimental probe. In solid-state systems, this simple quantum mechanical principle has far-reaching consequences: the interplay of several degrees of freedom close to charge, spin or ...

The structure of the Au(111)/methylthiolate interface : new insights from near-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy and X-ray standing waves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The local structure of the Au(111)([square root of]3×[square root of]3)R30°-methylthiolate surface phase has been investigated by S K-edge near-edge s-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) both experimentally and theoretically and by experimental normal-

Examining Heuristics for Building - Work-in-Progress Valuations in Niger State Nigeria

open access: yesReal Estate Management and Valuation, 2018
Where an investment decision on building work-in-progress (BWIP) is premised on the judgment of value, the technique of assessment must be accurate. The heuristic technique has not been able to achieve this goal.

A rigorous analysis of high order electromagnetic invisibility cloaks

open access: yes, 2008
There is currently a great deal of interest in the invisibility cloaks recently proposed by Pendry et al. that are based in the transformation approach. They obtained their results using first order transformations. In recent papers Hendi et al.

Momentum relaxation from the fluid/gravity correspondence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We provide a hydrodynamical description of a holographic theory with broken translation invariance. We use the fluid/gravity correspondence to systematically obtain both the constitutive relations for the currents and the Ward identity for momentum ...

Water Co‐Adsorption in Ultrathin Films of Ionic Liquids on Pt(111)

open access: yesChemistryOpen, Volume 15, Issue 4, April 2026.
At 100 K, IL adsorption on D2O precovered Pt(111) partially displaces interfacial water resulting in a water‐IL co‐adsorbed layer. Upon heating to 130 K, IL ions migrate to the metal interface, thereby destabilizing adsorbed water as shown by the ≈10 K reduction in its desorption temperature.

2D Iron Oxide at the Graphene/SiC(0001) Interface

open access: yesSmall Methods, Volume 10, Issue 8, 22 April 2026.
2D iron oxide was successfully formed via intercalation of Fe and O into the graphene/SiC(0001) interface. Atomic‐resolution electron microscopy revealed that the 2D iron oxide is encapsulated by graphene and sharply interfaced with SiC. This material is suggested to exhibit antiferromagnetic behavior at low temperatures.

Measures Implemented by Local Authorities, Particularly in the Sphere of Spatial Policy, and Its Impact on Setting Up and Developing Companies – Opinions Comparison

open access: yesFolia Oeconomica Stetinensia, 2020
Research background: The development of business on a local level depends on a variety of factors, which as is often the case are shaped by the local authorities.
