Radar ground-clutter shields

1965 Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium, 1966
Metal shields (or fences) are useful in reducing the ground clutter received by a radar. The design of a clutter shield for an L-band monopulse radar employing a 60-ft parabolic reflector with Cassegrainian geometry is verified by scale-model measurements at K a -band.

Detection in Heterogeneous Radar Clutter

2007 IEEE 15th Signal Processing and Communications Applications, 2007
Classical algorithms that were derived with Rayleigh clutter assumption yield increased false alarm rate under Weibull clutter. In this study, a method for radar thresholding in range-heterogeneous Weibull radar clutter is proposed. The method employs expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm in estimation of the parameters and sets the threshold ...

A statistical radar clutter classifier

Proceedings of the IEEE National Radar Conference, 2003
An algorithm that successfully classifies radar clutter into one of several major categories, including bird, weather, and target classes, is described. Parametric Bayes classification is applied to a set of features derived from the reflection coefficients computed using the multisegment version of Burg's formula.

Adaptive radar clutter suppression

MTS/IEEE Oceans 2001. An Ocean Odyssey. Conference Proceedings (IEEE Cat. No.01CH37295), 2002
The clutter return presents a severe problem in target detection for radar systems. Conventional radar systems assume the clutter is stationary, with energy concentrated in the low frequency domain. To minimize the effect of clutter, radar systems use a fixed high pass filter (HPF) to eliminate the clutter.

MIMO radar limitations in clutter

2009 IEEE Radar Conference, 2009
Recently discovered bounds for the clear-area available in the ambiguity domain for a MIMO radar waveform set are shown to be a significant limitation in radar applications having extended scatterer distributions. These limitations are demonstrated using an example from an experimental MIMO over-the-horizon radar.

Optimum radar signal processing in clutter

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 1968
This paper considers the joint optimization of a class of radar signals and filters in a number of clutter-pins-noise environments. The radar signal processor in this case will be optimum in the sense that its output at the time of target detection yields the maximum ratio of peak signal power to total interference power.

An experimental classification of radar clutter

Proceedings of the IEEE, 1979
This letter describes some experimental results concerning the classification of radar clutter-according to whether it is due to reflections from ground, weather disturbances, or migrating flocks of birds. The procedure is based on the maximum entropy method.

Modeling Radar Clutter

1991
Abstract : Radar detection of aircraft on a particular scan depends in large measure on the clutter return from the target's range cell. The distribution of clutter reflectivities is often so wide that variations of many dB in signature or threshold of detection correspond to changes of only a few percent in PD (probability of detection).

New clutter suppression approach for multifunction radar-radar resource management for the clutter suppression

IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Magazine, 1990
The use of constant-false-alarm-rate (CFAR) techniques to keep false alarm rates at a suitable low level is reviewed. Radar resource management for clutter suppression, a novel approach for multifunction phased-array radar that can more effectively suppress clutter, is proposed.
