CFD spinoff - Computational electromagnetics for radar cross section(RCS) studies

Flight Simulation Technologies Conference and Exhibit, 1990
A finite-volume discretization procedure derived from proven CFD methods is used to solve the conservation form of the time-domain Maxwell's equations, in order to compute EM scattering from layered objects. This time-domain approach handles both single-frequency/continuous wave and broadband-frequency/pulse incident excitation.

Bi-Static Radar Cross Section (RCS) Reduction of Impedance Cylinder

2006 IEEE Conference on Radar, 2006
Reduction of RCS of military targets is important issue and can be regarded as part of passive ECM (electronic counter measure). Reduction of RCS is basically made by multilayer coating the surface of the target by lossy dielectrics. In this case, boundary condition which is satisfied on the surface of target can be modelled by IBC (impedance boundary ...

The calculation of radar cross‐section (RCS) using the TLM method

International Journal of Numerical Modelling: Electronic Networks, Devices and Fields, 1989
AbstractThe calculation of the radar cross‐section (RCS) of complex bodies using the symmetrical condensed TLM method is presented. The technique is based on a near‐to‐far field transformation of the TLM calculated near fields. Several two‐dimensional examples are presented which validate the method.

Analytical Estimation of Radiation Mode Radar Cross Section (RCS) of Phased Arrays

IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, 2020
A novel analytical method has been proposed to compute radiation mode RCS of phased arrays. The array RCS is computed by tracing the path of an impinging EM signal as it travels through the array system. The scattered field contribution from each component of array and its feed network is expressed in terms of the reflection and transmission ...

Far field radar cross-section (RCS) predictions from planar near field measurements

IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium 1992 Digest, 1992
Three modifications to M.A. Dinallo's (Proc. AMTA, 1984) planar NFFFT (near-field-to-far-field transformation) algorithm are described which tailor the near field data collection requirements to the desired far zone RCS (radar cross section) data. Excellent performance was demonstrated at 6% of the far-field distance using simulated near-field data ...

Theoretical Background for the Computation of Radar Cross-Section (RCS) Using NEC

2020
The entire theoretical framework of NEC starting from the definition of integral equations to the solution of matrix equation is briefly introduced in this chapter. The basis functions used for representing the unknown current densities and the weight functions used for testing are also described in detail.

Comparative measurements of precision radar cross section (RCS) calibration targets

IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium. 2001 Digest. Held in conjunction with: USNC/URSI National Radio Science Meeting (Cat. No.01CH37229), 2002
Precise radar cross section (RCS) measurements of an arbitrary target require the measurement radar system to be calibrated with a highly accurate "known" RCS target. To minimize calibration errors, RCS calibration "targets" generally meet two demanding criteria: (1) the RCS must be precisely known; (2) the calibration target must have realistic and ...

Study on Cylinder's Surface Current Density and Radar Cross Section (RCS) Resonance

2013 International Conference on Information Technology and Applications, 2013
Perfect electric conductive cylinder's scattering is a typical 2-dimensional scattering and has accurate solution which is very helpful in study of conductor's surface wave, crawling wave and is often used for validation of computational algorithm. The surface currency density's magnitude and phase's distribution over the profile are studied and the ...

Radar Cross Section (RCS) Measurements

2013
The radar cross section (RCS) is a critical parameter that describes the electromagnetic wave - target interaction. Its accurate prediction has long been a hot research and engineering topic. Today, RCS prediction of real targets is achieved via either numerical simulations or measurements. Here, indoor RCS measurements are reviewed in a tutorial.
