Radar Polarimetry: Applications to Radar Systems

1994
The topic of this chapter is vector signal processing in polarimetric radars, which require simultaneous signal reception through two orthogonally polarized channels.

Adaptive processing in radar polarimetry

SPIE Proceedings, 1993
In this paper, an adaptive polarimetric system is proposed, which allows for the minimization of the contribution of a stationary clutter by adapting the polarization state of the receiving antenna to the polarimetric signature of the environment by using the minimum power criterion.

Radar polarimetry for subsurface imaging

SPIE Proceedings, 2001
The use of radar polarimetry for subsurface sensing is introduced in this paper. We developed a polarimetric borehole radar, which can acquire the full-polarimetric radar profile in a borehole. The measured profile showed that subsurface fracture characteristics can be obtained from the polarimetric analysis.

Aspects of Statistical Radar Polarimetry

2006 7th International Symposium on Antennas, Propagation & EM Theory, 2006
A comparison between the Kennaugh matrix and the covariance matrix formulation of second-order moment radar polarimetry reveals fundamental relationships between power and variance aspects of bi-static and mono-static radar scattering from randomly distributed targets.

Radar polarimetry: analysis tools and applications

IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 1988
The authors have developed several techniques to analyze polarimetric radar data from the NASA/JPL airborne SAR for Earth science applications. The techniques determine the heterogeneity of scatterers with subregions, optimize the return power from these areas, and identify probable scattering mechanisms for each pixel in a radar image.

Introduction to Radar Polarimetry

2012
Wave polarization and polarimetry play vital roles in radar target identification comprising the three phases of target detection, discrimination, and recognition. This chapter presents an introduction to radar polarimetry emphasizing the polarization behavior as described by the scattering matrix.

Basic Concepts of Radar Polarimetry

1992
A comprehensive overview of the basic principles of radar polarimetry is presented. The relevant fundamental field equations are first provided in order to introduce the polarization state formulations of electromagnetic waves in the frequency domain, including the Jones and the Stokes vector formalism and its presentation on the Poincare sphere and on

Application Of Radar Polarimetry To Forestry

International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 'Remote Sensing: Moving Toward the 21st Century'., 2005
In order to understand L-band multipolarization radar measurements of forested areas, a model for the forest polarization signature was developed. The model is based on backscatter from dielectric cylinders which represent branches and trunks. In the model the Stokes matrices corresponding to several different scattering mechanisms is calculated ...

Statistical Aspects of Radar Polarimetry

2004
A comparison between the Kennaugh and the covariance matrix formulation of second- order moments radar and optical polarimetry reveals fundamental relationships between target decompositions and power and variance aspects of radar back scattering and transmission for point and randomly distributed targets.
