Radial Probe Endobronchial Ultrasound and Novel Navigation Biopsy Techniques
Seminars in Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, 2014Peripheral pulmonary lesions are an increasingly common finding in clinical practice. While many nodules are followed with radiographic surveillance, some may require biopsy. Conventional bronchoscopy with transbronchial lung biopsy has traditionally performed poorly for small, peripheral lesions, and transthoracic needle aspiration with computed ...

Guidance system development for radial-probe endobronchial ultrasound bronchoscopy
Medical Imaging 2019: Image-Guided Procedures, Robotic Interventions, and Modeling, 2019For peripheral pulmonary lesion diagnosis, surgical thoracoscopy and percutaneous needle biopsy are common invasive options, but entail significant risks; e.g., percutaneous biopsy carries a 15% pneumothorax rate and risk of other complications. The development of new bronchoscopic devices, such as radial-probe endobronchial ultrasound (RP-EBUS ...

Linear and radial endobronchial ultrasound in diagnosis and staging of lung cancer
Expert Review of Medical Devices, 2013Endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) in recent years has become a routine diagnostic procedure in bronchology. Linear EBUS shows high diagnostic yield in evaluation of mediastinal lymph nodes. It is mainly used for nodal evaluation in lung cancer, but has also proven to be efficient in diagnostic evaluation of mediastinal masses.

Background: Several factors have been reported to affect the diagnostic yield of bronchoscopy with radial endobronchial ultrasound (R-EBUS) for peripheral pulmonary lesions (PPLs). However, it is difficult to accurately predict the diagnostic potential of bronchoscopy for each PPL in advance.

Pulmonary Nodular Lymphoid Hyperplasia in the Eye of Radial Endobronchial Ultrasound
SN Comprehensive Clinical Medicine, 2020Pulmonary nodular lymphoid hyperplasia (PNLH) is a rare, benign lymphoproliferative disorder often manifesting as a solitary pulmonary nodule (SPN). Once a malignant cause of SPN is ruled out, it presents a diagnostic dilemma to clinicians due to histopathological overlap with diseases like mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma and IgG4 ...

AbstractObjectiveTo evaluate the predictive value of echo features of radial probe endobronchial ultrasound (RP‐EBUS) in the differential diagnosis of malignant and benign 1esions.MethodsThe clinical data of 336 patients with peripheral pulmonary lesions (PPLs) undergoing RP‐EBUS were analyzed in order to evaluate the predictive value of the three EBUS

Differential diagnosis of pulmonary infiltrates is difficult due to the absence of specific clinical and radiological manifestations. Differential diagnosis of pulmonary infiltrates usually includes the following «triad»: pneumonia, tuberculosis, lung cancer.

Radial Endobronchial Ultrasound
2012Radiologic imaging of the chest has been proven to be unreliable in diagnosis of mediastinal lymph nodes and tumor invasion of cancer and has several other limitations. The view of the endoscopist however is limited to the lumen and the internal surface of the airways.

Radial Endobronchial Ultrasound Findings
2016It is important to know the typical R-EBUS findings in order to decide the biopsy site; conversely, contrast, gain, and scanning direction need to be set properly before using R-EBUS for image interpretation. For ground glass opacity (GGO) lesions, R-EBUS signals need to be compared with and delineated from the signals of a normal lung.
