Value of MRI Outcomes for Preventive and Early‐Stage Trials in Spinocerebellar Ataxias 1 and 3

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To examine the value of MRI outcomes as endpoints for preventive and early‐stage trials of two polyglutamine spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs). Methods A cohort of 100 participants (23 SCA1, 63 SCA3, median Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) score = 5, 42% preataxic, and 14 gene‐negative controls) was scanned at 3T up ...

Analytic determination of high-order post-Newtonian self-force contributions to gravitational spin precession

open access: yes, 2015
Continuing our analytic computation of the first-order self-force contribution to the "geodetic" spin precession frequency of a small spinning body orbiting a large (non-spinning) body we provide the exact expressions of the tenth and tenth-and-a-half ...

Nuclear Pairing: Surface or Bulk ? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We analyse how the spatial localisation properties of pairing correlations are changing in a major neutron shell of heavy nuclei. It is shown that the radial distribution of the pairing density depends strongly on whether the chemical potential is close ...

Mapping atomistic to coarse-grained polymer models using automatic simplex optimization to fit structural properties

open access: yes, 2000
We develop coarse-grained force fields for poly (vinyl alcohol) and poly (acrylic acid) oligomers. In both cases, one monomer is mapped onto a coarse-grained bead.

Conservative, gravitational self-force for a particle in circular orbit around a Schwarzschild black hole in a Radiation Gauge [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This is the second of two companion papers on computing the self-force in a radiation gauge; more precisely, the method uses a radiation gauge for the radiative part of the metric perturbation, together with an arbitrarily chosen gauge for the parts of ...

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

Systematic comparison of force fields for microscopic simulations of NaCl in aqueous solutions: Diffusion, free energy of hydration and structural properties

open access: yes, 2003
In this paper we compare different force fields that are widely used (Gromacs, Charmm-22/x-Plor, Charmm-27, Amber-1999, OPLS-AA) in biophysical simulations containing aqueous NaCl.

The dark matter halo shape of edge-on disk galaxies - II. Modelling the HI observations: methods [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This is the second paper of a series in which we attempt to put constraints on the flattening of dark halos in disk galaxies. For this purpose, we observe the HI in edge-on galaxies, where it is in principle possible to measure the force field in the ...

Clinical Practice Guideline for Evaluation and Management of Peripheral Nervous System Manifestations in Sjögren's Disease

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Sjögren's disease is an autoimmune disorder that can impact multiple organ systems, including the peripheral nervous system (PNS). PNS manifestations, which can exist concurrently, include mononeuropathies, polyneuropathies, and autonomic nervous system neuropathies.

Numerical Simulation Research on Radial Force of Centrifugal Pump with Guide Vanes

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2021
To reveal the internal unsteady flow state of the guide vane centrifugal pump, in this paper, the standard SST k‐ω turbulent flow model is used for unsteady numerical simulation of the centrifugal pump.
