Performance assessment of a potential underground thermal storage facility: Case study of the closed mine Prosper‐Haniel in the Ruhr coal mining area in Germany

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates the feasibility of an underground closed‐loop thermal storage facility at a post‐mining site, intended for seasonal heat energy storage. Its principal design shows water flow directions in winter and summer (1, 2), heat pumps (3), an upper water reservoir (4), and connecting pipes (5).

Seismic analysis and design of tunnels within fault ground: A review

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The research methods of seismic response of tunnels within fault ground, including field investigations, analytical solutions, physical experiments, and numerical simulations, and seismic countermeasures are discussed. The present study examines the shortcomings and limitations of the current research and design, and puts forward proposals for future ...

Comminuted fractures of the radial head.

open access: yes, 2010
BACKGROUND: There have been few reports on the long-term outcome of comminuted radial head fractures in adults. METHOD: 10 women and 9 men with a mean age of 45 (21-65) years when they sustained a comminuted fracture of the radial head were re-evaluated ...

Harnessing Thin‐Film Solid‐State Electrolytes: Enabling Breakthroughs in All‐Solid‐State Batteries

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Schematic illustration highlighting the advantages of transitioning from traditional thick solid‐state electrolytes (SSEs) to thin‐film SSEs. Thinning the electrolyte enables higher ionic conductivity, reduced interfacial polarization, improved flexibility, compact electrode contact, and enhanced energy density, offering a promising pathway toward high‐

Radial Head Fractures: Outcomes Of Different Surgical Treatments

open access: yes, 2019
Background Fractures of radial head account for 2,5 of all fractures and 1/3 of fractures involving the elbow. This kind of lesion is often underappreciated; multifragmentary patterns, concomitant elbow dislocation or associated fractures can lead to ...

Research Progress of Three‐Terminal Perovskite/Silicon Tandem Solar Cells Based on Back‐Contact Silicon

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells offer efficiencies beyond 30%, yet conventional architectures face trade‐offs between optical performance and current matching. Three‐terminal tandems employing silicon back‐contact bottom cells eliminate the current‐matching constraint while minimizing optical losses, offering superior energy yield under real ...

Fracture Development Mechanism of Water‐Isolating Soil Layers During Downward Mining of Shallow‐Buried Coal Seam Groups

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
This study systematically investigates the fracture development mechanisms of water‐isolating soil layers under the coupled effects of repeated mining and groundwater seepage during the downward mining of shallow‐buried coal seams. The findings provide a theoretical basis for evaluating stratum stability and preventing roof water inrush.

Post‐Stimulation Hydraulic Response and Productivity Constraints of a Low‐Productivity Carbonate Geothermal Well in the Small Intramontane Basin, Beijing Piedmont, North China

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Formed ~1.4 Ga, the carbonate reservoir of the Jixian System is a key geothermal reservoir in northern China. Differential basin–mountain evolution since the Cenozoic led to distinct reservoir‐forming histories; consequently, this same reservoir shows marked productivity contrasts between intramontane basins and the large rift Bohai Bay Basin ...

Management of Radial Head Fractures: Current Concepts

open access: yes, 2011
Radial head fractures are common injuries and are accompanied by clinically relevant associated injuries in over one-third of patients. They are commonly classified by the Mason classification or one of its modifications.
