Toward Perception‐Native Electronic Skin: Bio‐Inspired In‐/Near‐Sensor and Neuromorphic Computing for Humanoid Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Dense tactile streams from across the humanoid body converge on collide in a central wiring and data bottleneck. By relocating computation closer to and then into the skin itself, near‐ and in‐sensor architectures, together with neuromorphic computing, chart a path toward perception‐native electronic skin, in which the conversion of stimulus into ...

Radial Head Osteochondral Flake Refixation With a Transosseous All-Suture Technique

open access: yesArthroscopy Techniques
Elbow dislocations frequently coincide with osteochondral radial head flake fractures, posing a notable risk for subsequent post-traumatic osteoarthritis.

Open reduction and internal fixation with bone grafts for comminuted mason type II radial head fractures

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, 2018
Background The use of bone graft for the radial head fractures has been previously described and occasionally used by other authors. This is the first paper, to my knowledge, dealing with the relevant issue about the importance that the use of an ...

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

Arthroscopic Radial Head Implant Removal and Resection

open access: yesArthroscopy Techniques, 2016
Displaced radial head fractures are treated with open reduction and internal fixation using implants. Failure of fixation may occur in the presence of comminution and in multifragmentary fractures; open surgical approaches are necessary for removal of ...

Waveguide Photoactuators: Materials, Fabrication, and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Waveguide photoactuators convert guided light into mechanical motion. Their tethered‐flexible design enables minimally invasive surgery and confined‐space robotics. This review aims to guide materials selection, device design, and system integration, accelerating the transition of waveguide photoactuators from laboratory prototypes to versatile ...

Presentation and Management of Displaced Lateral Condylar Mass Fractures With Ipsilateral Displaced Olecranon Fractures in Two Pediatric Cases

open access: yesTrauma Case Reports, 2020
Cases: Two pediatric patients, aged 4 and 6-years-old, presented to a level one children's hospital with displaced lateral condylar mass (LCM) and ipsilateral displaced olecranon fractures after falling directly on to the affected extremity.

Internal fixation of radial head fractures with an intramedullary nail

open access: yes, 2013
Comminuted fractures of the radial head still present significant technical and surgical challenges. In this article, we describe a novel fixation of comminuted radial head fractures with the help of an intramedullary nail.

Microscale Mapping of Fiber Strain and Damage in Composite Wrinkled Laminates Using Computed Tomography Assisted Wide‐Angle X‐Ray Scattering

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study combines full‐field tomography with diffraction mapping to quantify radial (ε002$\varepsilon _{002}$) and axial (ε100$\varepsilon _{100}$) lattice strain in wrinkled carbon‐fiber specimens for the first time. Radial microstrain gradients (−14.5 µεMPa$\varepsilon \mathrm{MPa}$−1) are found to signal damage‐prone zones ahead of failure, which ...

An Undescribed Monteggia Type 3 Equivalent Lesion: Lateral Dislocation of Radial Head with Both-Bone Forearm Fracture

open access: yesCase Reports in Orthopedics, 2016
Monteggia fractures are accepted as hard-to-recognize and easy-to-handle fractures. Adequate radiographic investigations and clinical examinations are necessities. This case holds unique features involving diagnosis and treatment.
