Radially polarized symmetric Airy beam

Optics Letters, 2020
In this Letter, we introduce a new kind of radially polarized beam called the radially polarized symmetric Airy beam (RPSAB). Compared to the linearly polarized symmetric Airy beam (SAB), the hollow focus spot of RPSAB enables it to trap a microparticle whose refractive index is lower than that of the surrounding medium, and the focus intensity of ...

Generating radially polarized beams interferometrically

Applied Optics, 1990
Two interferometric techniques for converting a linearly polarized laser beam into a radially polarized beam with uniform azimuthal intensity are described. The techniques are based on the linear combination of orthogonally polarized beams, which have tailored intensity and phase profiles. Linearly polarized beams with intensity profiles tailored using

Polarization manipulation of radially polarized beams

Optical Engineering, 2012
We used patterned radial polarizers to easily generate and detect radially polarized beams. We then showed how to spatially manip- ulate the two-dimensional polarization mapping provided by a radial polar- izer using different waveplate systems to obtain new two-dimensional polarization states.

Radial and azimuthal polarizers

Journal of Optics A: Pure and Applied Optics, 2006
A method for dividing an incoming beam into radially and azimuthally polarized beams is proposed and studied theoretically. A thin birefringent plate—with its optical axis perpendicular to its polished surfaces—inserted behind a focusing lens generates two foci. One can be associated with the azimuthally and other with the radially polarized components

Radially Polarized Optical Tweezers

Optics in the Life Sciences, 2011
We present experimental measurements of the spring constants of a radially polarized optical tweezer for a wide range of micro- and nano-particles and compare the results to those obtained using linearly- and circularly-polarized trapping beams.

Annular pupils, radial polarization, and superresolution

Applied Optics, 2004
An annular pupil, which can be used to produce a Bessel beam, when combined with radially polarized illumination promises improvements in microscope resolution, increased packing density for optical storage, and finer optical lithography. When combined with a circular detection pupil in confocal microscopy a point-spread function 112 nm wide results ...

Radially polarized mode-locked Nd:YAG laser

Optics Letters, 2009
We demonstrate a Nd:YAG laser emitting radially polarized, mode-locked 140 ps long pulses by exploiting the thermally induced birefringence of a Nd:YAG crystal. The laser repetition rate is 82 MHz, the maximum average output power is 3 W, and the beam quality is close to the theoretical value of M2=2.
