Characterizing polarization properties of radially polarized beams

Optical Review, 2014
In the present work two methods of characterizing polarization properties of well-known radially polarized beams are discussed in both theoretical aspect and experimental aspect. A rotating linear polarizer used behind the beam is known to be used to qualitatively characterize the polarization properties of a radially polarized beam.

Partially coherent radially polarized circular Airy beam

Optics Letters, 2020
We propose and demonstrate a new, to the best of our knowledge, kind of partially coherent vector beam called the partially coherent radially polarized circular Airy beam (PCRPCAB). The PCRPCAB inherits the autofocusing ability of the radially polarized circular Airy beam (RPCAB) and can create an optical potential well at the center of the beam, whose

Polarization conversion in confocal microscopy with radially polarized illumination

Optics Letters, 2009
The effects of using radially polarized illumination in a confocal microscope are discussed, and the introduction of a polarization mode converter into the detection optics of the microscope is proposed. We find that with such a configuration, bright-field imaging can be performed without losing the resolution advantage of radially polarized ...

Radially polarized high-power lasers

SPIE Proceedings, 2008
In the recent years high-power laser beams with radial polarization have attracted an increasing interest because of their interesting properties in material processing. We present an overview of the current activities and different techniques to generate such beams in CO2 and solid-state lasers.

Optical fiber based radial polarizer

Optics Communications, 2012
Abstract In this paper we present a new type of optical fiber aiming to radially polarize the electrical field. This special device is composed of a tapered fiber having a classical core while on top of its external surface, radially oriented nanorods are disposed. The tails of the propagated wave are interacting with those radially oriented nanorods.

Performance parameters for focusing of radial polarization

Optics Letters, 2008
Performance parameters are presented for high-aperture radially polarized focusing systems. These can be used for comparing the focusing performance of different optical systems, including the effect of pupil filters.

A linearly-polarized radial line slot antenna

1988 IEEE AP-S. International Symposium, Antennas and Propagation, 1988
A design for linearly polarized radial line slot antenna (RLSA) is proposed. A novel slot arrangement is presented which couples to the rotationally symmetric guided waves to produce a uniform aperture distribution with linear polarization. Basic characteristics were measured in the 12-GHz band on a model antenna.

Light-induced radially polarized magnetic fields

Optics Communications, 2021
Abstract Many ferromagnets exhibit the inverse Faraday effect (IFE), and based on the IFE, magnetic fields with different distributions can be induced conveniently in these ferromagnets by tailoring the laser fields. Besides, the magnetic field induced by IFE has been conceived as a far-field and non-invasive method to manipulate the magnetization ...

Diffractive superresolution elements for radially polarized light

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2010
An optimization method for diffractive superresolution elements (DSEs) for radially polarized light is proposed. Only the longitudinal component of the focused field of radially polarized light is considered for optimization, and the results are 0, pi two-phase distributed DSEs.

Probing ultrafast phenomena with radially polarized light

Applied Optics, 2016
A new modality for probing ultrafast phenomena that relies on radially or azimuthally polarized probe pulses is presented. First, we describe the principle and then theoretically analyze the signals expected for different types of pump-induced nonlinearities. Last, we experimentally verify the methodology by probing a pump-induced Kerr gate with a time-
