Radially Polarized Ion Channel Laser

Proceedings of the 2005 Particle Accelerator Conference, 2006
Radially polarized radiation is amplified by a free electron laser (FEL) in which the undulator is an ion channel with uniform density. For long betatron wavelengths and low gain per pass, the gain at a given distance from the axis is three-eighths the gain of a periodic ion channel laser with the same wiggler parameter.

Sharper Focus for a Radially Polarized Light Beam

Physical Review Letters, 2003
We experimentally demonstrate for the first time that a radially polarized field can be focused to a spot size significantly smaller [0.16(1)lambda(2)] than for linear polarization (0.26lambda(2)). The effect of the vector properties of light is shown by a comparison of the focal intensity distribution for radially and azimuthally polarized input ...

Snap-shot optical polarization spectroscopy using radially polarized pulses

Applied Physics Express, 2016
Abstract By using radially polarized pulses for excitation in degenerate four-wave mixing (DFWM) spectroscopy, we realize highly sensitive snap-shot measurement of optical anisotropies in semiconductor films. Because the radially polarized pulses exhibit spatially varying linear polarizations, the optical anisotropies in samples can be ...

Generation of a high-power radially polarized beam

SPIE Proceedings, 1999
Radially polarized radiation 1.8 kW was first obtained in an industrial high-power CO 2 -laser. Special reflective elements with axial polarization selectivity 22% were used as rear mirror in the laser. The output radiation consisted mainly of an unpolarized mode TEM00 and a radially polarized mode R-TEM01*.

Radial Polarization Beams in Nanophotonics

Frontiers in Optics 2011/Laser Science XXVII, 2011
A superresolution volume of the focal spot and an axially-superresolved quasi-spherical focal spot can be produced for three-dimensional nanaophotonic fabrication, when radially polarized beams are focused by a high numerical-aperture objective.

Focusing of radially polarized beam with radial cosine phase wavefront

Optik, 2010
Radially polarized beam has gained much interest recently due to its properties and applications. In this article, the focusing properties of radially polarized beam with radial cosine phase wavefront are investigated theoretically. Results show that when the radially polarized beam with radial cosine wavefront phase is focused, the focal pattern ...

Radial polarization minimizes focal spot size

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics/International Quantum Electronics Conference and Photonic Applications Systems Technologies, 2004
We experimentally demonstrate that a radially polarized beam can be focused to a spot size significantly smaller than for linear polarization and that the longitudinal field component arising at focus best coupled to small ...

Vector holograms using radially polarized light

Applied Physics Letters, 2009
We have demonstrated the vector holograms using the radially polarized light. The inhomogeneous polarized light well controlled the spatial distribution of the optical anisotropy in the solid state polymeric materials. The theoretical calculation revealed formation mechanism and optical properties of the vector holograms.

All-fiber hectowatt radially polarized laser system

Optics Letters
A high-power all-fiber radially polarized laser system is demonstrated, in which an integrated nanograting mode convertor (S-wave plate) is used for the generation of radially polarized beam. Experimentally, a 1-W radially polarized beam was used as the seed laser, whose mode purity and mode extinction ratio (MER) were 96.5% and 98.3%, respectively.

Radially polarized mode-locked Nd:YAG oscillator

CLEO/Europe - EQEC 2009 - European Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics and the European Quantum Electronics Conference, 2009
Radially polarized laser beams are advantageous for several applications, such as laser cutting, trapping of micron-sized metallic particles, or vacuum acceleration of electrons. In laser cutting of metals, the radial polarisation ensures that the electric field vector is always perpendicular to the cutting front irrespective of the direction of ...
