Data‐driven performance metrics for neural network learning
Summary Effectiveness of data‐driven neural learning in terms of both local mimima trapping and convergence rate is addressed. Such issues are investigated in a case study involving the training of one‐hidden‐layer feedforward neural networks with the extended Kalman filter, which reduces the search for the optimal network parameters to a state ...

This study aims to explore the feasibility of using a structure inspired by the features of horsetail and human spine as the potential helmet liner, targeting at mitigation of acceleration‐induced injuries. A parametric study is conducted to investigate the effect of individual geometrical variables in the design, indicating its capability to reduce ...

Flexural Behavior of Bidirectionally Graded Lattice
An experimental study of the bending behavior of bidirectional body‐centered cubic lattice beams is conducted in comparison to uniform and unidirectional counterparts of electron beam melted SS 316 L. Experimental results are used to develop and validate a finite element model which is subsequently used to conduct parametric studies to assess the ...

Gaia Early Data Release 3: Updated radial velocities from Gaia DR2 [PDF]
Gaia's Early Third Data Release (EDR3) does not contain new radial velocities because these will be published in Gaia's full third data release (DR3), expected in the first half of 2022. To maximise the usefulness of EDR3, Gaia's second data release (DR2) sources (with radial velocities) are matched to EDR3 sources to allow their DR2 radial velocities ...

A novel method for tracking structural changes in gels using widely accessible microcomputed tomography is presented and validated for various hydro‐, alco‐, and aerogels. The core idea of the method is to track positions of micrometer‐sized tracer particles entrapped in the gel and relate them to the density of the gel network.

First radial velocity results from the MINiature Exoplanet Radial Velocity Array (MINERVA) [PDF]
The MINiature Exoplanet Radial Velocity Array (MINERVA) is a dedicated observatory of four 0.7m robotic telescopes fiber-fed to a KiwiSpec spectrograph. The MINERVA mission is to discover super-Earths in the habitable zones of nearby stars.

Geodesic Structure of the Accelerated Stephani Universe [PDF]
For the spherically symmetric Stephani cosmological model with an accelerated expansion, we investigate the main scenarios of the test particle and photon motion. We show that a comoving observer sees an appropriate picture. In the case of purely radial motion, the radial velocity decreases slightly with time due to the universe expansion.

Pulkovo Compilation of Radial Velocities for 35495 Hipparcos Stars in a Common System [PDF]
The Pulkovo Compilation of Radial Velocities (PCRV) has been made to study the stellar kinematics in the local spiral arm. The PCRV contains weighted mean absolute radial velocities for 35 495 Hipparcos stars of various spectral types and luminosity classes over the entire celestial sphere mainly within 500 pc of the Sun.

A Radial Velocity Search for Binary RR Lyrae Variables [PDF]
We report 272 radial velocities for 19 RR Lyrae variables. For most of the stars we have radial velocities for the complete pulsation cycle. These data are used to determine robust center--of--mass radial velocities that have been compared to values from the literature in a search for evidence of binary systems.

A catalogue of spectroscopic binary candidate stars derived from a comparison of Gaia DR2 with other radial velocity catalogues [PDF]
Using the recently published Gaia second data release which includes measurements of the mean radial velocity of about 7.2 million stars, we performed a systematic comparison with other existing radial velocity catalogues in order to search for variations in the radial velocity measurements, with the goal that detected differences may indicate that ...
