Numerical Study on Earthquake Energy Partitioning: Relationships Among Radiated Energy, Seismic Moment, and Stress Drop

open access: closedJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 2020
AbstractThis paper aims at mechanistically studying some aspects of earthquake energy partitioning with a focus on the radiated energy (Es) and seismic moment (Mo) relationships for investigating differences between estimates of average dynamic stress drop ( ) and static stress drop ( ).

Modeling injection-induced seismicity through calculation of radiated seismic energy

Journal of Natural Gas Science and Engineering, 2018
Abstract Seismicity induced by the injection of fluid into the fractured ground is one of the most challenging issues facing geothermal and deep wastewater disposal industries. This paper introduces an energy-based numerical methodology to study roles of fluid injection in triggering rupture (seismic slip) along preexisting faults. The methodology is

A Brief Review of Techniques Used to Estimate Radiated Seismic Energy

Geophysical Monograph Series, 2006
Seismic energy is a fundamental parameter of the earthquake source. Different parts of the seismogram and different techniques can be used to estimate the radiated energy, often with very different results. In this paper, we briefly review key techniques and compare their advantages and disadvantages. We divide the methods based on the wave types used.

Spectral magnitude and seismic radiated energy computed from CDSN records

Acta Seismologica Sinica, 1993
We have employed 10 digital records and computed the spectral magnitude and the seismic radiated energy for 18 large earthquakes (Ms≥6) occurred in Eur-asian belt during 1986–1989. The nine digital stations (CD-SN) distribute all over China and one in Germany. The spectral magnitudes of various period have different stability among stations.

Spatial distribution of radiated seismic energy from earthquakes in Taiwan and surrounding regions

open access: closedJournal of Asian Earth Sciences, 2020
Abstract The radiated energy during earthquakes is one of the essential characteristics that have a significant impact on human lives. The study of the released energy during earthquakes and their distribution may provide a detailed knowledge about the driving forces.

Seismic Energy Radiated by Earthquakes in the North-Central Region of the Gulf of California, Mexico

open access: closedBulletin of the Seismological Society of America
ABSTRACT We investigate the radiated seismic energy of P and S waves in the north-central region (27.5–31.5° N) of the Gulf of California (GoC), Mexico, from 83 earthquakes recorded at stations of the Broadband Seismological Network (RESBAN) of the GoC, Mexico, and the Mexican National Seismological Service for the period 2015–2021.

Energy radiated by seismic events of different scales and geneses

Izvestiya, Physics of the Solid Earth, 2016
Extensive data comprising about 1500 seismic events with the moment magnitudes M W from–3.5 to 9.2 have been analyzed for identifying the implications of the event size, the type of faulting in the source, and tectonic situations for the efficiency of the radiation.
